Always buddy... but then it was a long time ago, without the time pressures now placed on modern tech's..! These days they are allotted pre-set times to cover any given job, and a time-in-motion recommendation dictates the money YOU pay as a customer.. long gone is the practice of getting the bike on the bench and seeing how bad it is , these days, customers want fixed price servicing, and wont pay more because their bike is a neglected old nail, making it twice as hard to work on due to stuck bolts and rusted fasteners.....These days its more about 'commerce' than 'care' buddy.!!!

After years, still the best videos on bike maintenance to come back to when you can't remember all the details. One question: some veterans told me to lean the bike to about 45 degrees to the left and right for the last few pumps (of course without spilling what's in the reservoir). The idea is that there are some places inside the system where air bubbles could "get stuck" while the bike is upright (caused by edges and tiny channels inside the brake shoe cast). What do you think about that? Or will this get solved by the overnight-trick?

That taping the front brake lever and leaving it overnight is a new obtained by watching your video. Sir, you did a hell of a good job explaining thoroughly. Nice job... but ! what I did... I went to aliexpress and bought 20$ compressor vacuum pump brake bleeder. I used to do something like this in the past, and it does a job quite well. But with this thing, everything is done perfectly in 5 min per brake/clutch. Basically, I pump out all fluid from reservoir, put in new one. Connect a hose to bleeder valve and run vacuum, and run few reservoirs through. As the fluid level gets lower, I just put new fluid in. Just flush a new fluid through the system. I like these videos, and those "little" tricks ! big thanks for them !

After watching your vid Del, I decided to inspect the brake fluid and to my surprise there was a small amount of crystallisation on the front brake fluid reservoir. Managed to clean it all out and flushed it through twice. Thing is I only replaced the fluid 18 months ago. Must have been out of date before. So this time, checked the manufacturers date, and set a reminder for 12 months. After all this fluid is cheap enough and easy to do. BMW F800GS 16 plate.

On my CBR I have always had problems bleeding front brakes. I'll try and employ these techniques. My master cylinder has an additional bleed fitting, and the method of the steel hoses is where a long single bolt mates the two together and they each go to the caliper. Not the single hose saddle method.

Great tips, I'm trying out the overnight pressurising of the system on one of my bikes where there is a bit of spongyness after changing calliper pistons, seals, pads and fluid. I've used an old inner tube from a push bike, just cut off an inch or so (25mm for those who measure in French) to make a elastic band. Seems to put just the right amount of pressure on the lever. My advice to people watching is make friends with a bicyclist who belongs to a cycling club. They will give you any number of these tubes that are so useful, they make good 'soft jaws' as shown in one of your vids. Also great for holding down lids on tins and containers.

if you can find it there's different colored brake fluid at the same DOT rating. it makes it really easy to tell when the new fluid is coming out as it changes color from yellow to blue/red or whatever order of color you use. get the legit stuff though, don't use food coloring or some other trick as that's all water based stuff and will use up the brake fluid before you even get to. top tip on leaving the lever pressed over night to express the residual air out! double edit.... man those new EBC discs look good!

Just did this very process on Melly's Triumph Speedmaster. On the America's & Speedy's I would caution to slowly and gently squeeze the lever in and out. Without the cap on, the front brake master piston returning tends to squirt a jet of brake fluid out the reservoir! If your noodle is in the line of fire you can get a surprise! Almost riding season here! About dam time! Cheers! Mike

Nice Video again, Delboy. I didn´t know the trick with the pulled brake lever/pedal to pressurize the braking system ´till know. I go into my garage right now to do this, because I changed the brake fluid of my Honda X11 just a view days ago. One more thing I want to mention is, that on CBS (=Combined Braking System)-System it is highly recommended to suck out the brake fluid with some kind of vacuum device rather than pump it through and I find it way more easy, because you don´t have to do the pumping action on the lever/pedal (and get a tendovaginitis ;))). You just suck the old fluid out through the bleeding valves. All you have to do is watch the fluid level in the brake fluid tub and refill it before the level reaches minimum. Just that easy.

Sir, your bikes are too clean to be true lol they look like a Haynes Manual strip down :) Love the info and really like your video instructions!. well done mate you are a heartfelt credit to the real biking community, sir:) PS fishtank air pump clear tubing costs £1.00 per metre from any pet shop and I have always used this with no problems, just like to let you and everybody know.

Never bled brakes before. Does this method work for non-linked ABS brakes? I'm going to change ALL the brake hoses (and master cylinder seals)on my Honda NC750X (2014). Everyone on the owners forum recommends a hand vacuum pump (Mityvac or Sealy) for fluid replacement. Does using a pump help? What would you use? Thanks for the clear and concise video.

Does this same procedure apply to ABS brakes? I've read there's something special that needs to be done with the ABS modulator so that you can replace ALL of the brake fluid. Apparently the normal procedure doesn't replace the fluid in the ABS modulator. It's trapped inside unless you can open the ABS solenoids with Dealertool or other software.

6:38 Yea about that , i did it and tried to do it by adding fluid into the reservoir and pulling the brake lever many times then holding it pulled and bleed the valve Ended up pulling the lever about 3000 times and still no brake 😂 Then i just pumped brake fluid through the bleed valve and all the air got out from up and thats did it . 🙂

Brilliantly imformative and interesting video Del, I always have had problems bleeding brakes in the past and need to do them on my T100 Bonnie like Pen's and a 35 year old T140ES and this has given me greater confidence for top results.Never seen one of those plastic long-handled clamps but what a handy tip and will look for some 5mm bore tube. All the very best and many thanks.
