Here is how to change the brake pads on a car. This video shows me changing brake pads on a 2005 Subaru Impreza. The brake pads are easy to replace. Just remove the bolt at the bottom of the caliper and swing it upwards to remove the brake pads and then put on new pads, replace the bolt, and you're done. It is very easy to replace the brake pads on a car. This video will show you how to change the brake pads on a car.
Here's where you can get a Subaru repair manual:

Instead using a piece of wood for depressing the Pistons I always used one of the old brake pads that way it compresses both at the same time.

Pipeline welding im on a 2015 WRX w/ stock brakes and rotors and want to replace them with stock again for now. They are not making noises but do feel a bit "Sqeeshy" and wondered if it's best practice to change rotors and pads at the same time? Never done this before and doing research now so that I don't 'break' too much stuff. Thanks!! Any tips and advice is much appreciated.

@@hoohoohoblin is there a reason your chose to remove the bottom pin and rotate around the top pin, and not vice versa? Seems it'd be easier to swing it down by removing the top bolt. Is the brake line not long enough, or?

It always looks very simple and straightforward on YT but inevitably when I get going, bolts are frozen or there is some obstacle(s) that have to be overcome. So after buying parts and screwing with it for a good long while and not fixing anything, I’ll bring it to a mechanic who will have it back to me in a day or so. Sometimes knowing I’m a total idiot where mechanics are involves is a good thing.

Great video just to do pads, but I'd highly recommend taking out both slider pins and applying silicone lube, and brake lube on the metal clips the pads slide on and the back of the pads where it contacts the caliper or piston. I'd also replace the metal clips with new ones, and check the piston boot and the slider pin boots for holes. I've done my own brakes a bunch of times and never had an issue until last week one side of the car had a hole in the piston boot, and the other side had a seized up piston and a slider pin that was rusted inside the bracket so I couldn't even get the bracket off. The entire assembly should slide off once you remove the one bracket bolt, so I ended up buying two new calipers. I'd also use an old brake pad to compress the pistons so it's even compression. Also with the front wheels off it's a perfect time to flush the reservoir and front lines of old brake fluid. Just run a hose from the bleeder into a container with some of the old fluid from the reservoir in the container and bend the hose so the top of the bend is above the bleeder, then top off the reservoir with new fluid and tighten the cap and pump the brakes until they start to firm up a little, tighten the bleeder and add more fluid the reservoir, and repeat until the fluid in the hose is clean, then tighten the bleeder. ChrisFix has a great video on 1 person bleeding. I've also had to replace my rotors every time because they were warped. Just replacing the pads and not lubing or checking anything is asking for trouble.

I quite agree, good points. i just did the rears on an Imprezza and did the bleed as you descibe and cleaned/ greased the brake pins. One upper pin I saw was almost totally dry when I extracted it. I am much peased with the result.

Great video. I use welding c-clamp vise grips opened almost all the way to compress the brake cylinders. Less fuss with the turning the C-clamp worm gear. Also, don’t forget to tighten the cap on the master cylinder. Great job. Ironically, on the Subaru TriBeCa, you have to practically remove the entire front fascia but the breaks just two bolts, tie strap, a clamp and you’re good. BTW, just go LED on the headlamps and removed the lower headlight screws for good so you’re not stuck with low access to the replacement headlights.

This was horrible. You use no brake cleaner to clean the Pistons before you push them back in, you also pushed the dirty brake fluid back up into the cylinder instead of pushing it out the bleeder and use no grease between the pad and the Pistons and you put new pads on a rotor it should be turned so they all wear together. I'm guessing you did this just to show the basics but for somebody that doesn't know these other things it would be helpful
