I was going to ask about rotor inspection but I take it that’s addressed in the separate video. Good comprehensive write up. You made it look easy!

Love your vids, man. I've been scouting the web for the right Cayenne. I've looked at many and all have had issues. I guess I'll just keep looking.

Depending on the issue, you may be able to get a good deal then fix it yourself. At least you'll know it was done right. Be weary if you find a car without a good maintenance record.

Happily the pads in my car just drop into the caliper slots without having to remove the caliper from the carrier bracket. Sometimes replacing the rotors can be difficult since, in older cars, they are frequently bound to the hub with rust. I've seen people pound on them with hammers to try to break them free. This is dangerous and sometimes fails. Putting bolts in the carrier bracket and tightening them against the backs of the rotors usually works very easily to remove them. Also, if you crack the bleeder valves just a little when compressing the pistons, they will move easily and simultaneously remove some of that often-contaminated fluid in the calipers. I usually don't even need a compression tool.

I just bought a nearly identical CTT. 2008. Same color as yours. Red calipers too. What do the red calipers mean? Some 2008 models have different colors. Do they indicate 350mm rotors? Were they an upgrade?
@CarFanatic
@CarFanatic 6 жыл бұрын
+leusgs turbos came with red calipers which were the bigger brakes off the previous 955 turbo s models!

There are also yellow calipers which are super expensive. A $9000 option I think.

Hi. Good question. Here are all the details you'll need to change out your brake pads on the 08 turbo. Hope this helps. ecarguides.com/maintenance-guides/how-to-change-brake-pads-rotors-on-porsche-cayenne-368mm-front-rotor/?diy-vehicle&make=porsche&model=cayenne&trim=cayenne-turbo&model_year=2008

Could you add the pad Brand and part number for this CTT? Mine is identical. Looking at Textar 380mm on Amazon but not sure.

+Greg's Garage sorry, be here you go. amzn.to/2sg8U3P please note these are for the front on a 08 Cayenne. Front rotors are 368mm not 380.

you wouldn't know the rear rotor size? 330 or 350mm? I'd measure but the truck is under a foot of snow and it's -20C

+Greg's Garage I'd look it up online. I think it's 330 but am not 100%

All my research says the fronts are 368mm and the rears are 358mm. I ordered some TEXTARs online. Will see what happens.

does 957 turbo has 380mm front rotors? Can you replace pads without replacing rotor?
@CarFanatic
@CarFanatic Жыл бұрын
You can replace the pads without the rotors but it is not recommended. I've found they wear out at similar rates so it's best to do them at the same time. The 09-10 957 turbos used 380 mm rotors in the front while the 08 uses 368mm front rotors. Of all the 955/957 turbos, the 08 is the only year to use 368mm rotors. I know, super confusing right?

Didn't you replace the rotors? I have been told we have to replace the rotors every time we change the brake pads on German cars
@CarFanatic
@CarFanatic 6 жыл бұрын
I had just replaced the rotors, so that's why i didn't change them. I general, you dont have to replace the rotors if you have a lot of material left. If you have no vibration and your rotors will last as long as the new pads, no need to change.

You shouldn’t re-use the caliber bolts. They are not meant to be re-used.
@CarFanatic
@CarFanatic 4 жыл бұрын
It's totally fine to reused them if they are in good condition. Some bolts are torque to yield, therefore, you want to only use them once. These bolts aren't. Porsche says to use new bolts but that's because the uprights are aluminum so, bad damaged treads can damage the upright. But rest assured, if the treads on the bolt are in good shape, you can reuse it. That's my understanding at least.
@jessedaines2838
@jessedaines2838 4 жыл бұрын
Both Porsche and pelican parts state they are designed to be used once. I totally understand if you don’t want to replace them however for peace of mind and following Porsche repair/maintenance instructions you are supposed to replace them. Long as you are comfortable with no replacing them i’m sure there are plenty of cayennes on the road that don’t. Regardless nice video, good to see repair videos on these vehicles out there now.
