Not having a dipstick on a transmission is just a way to literally steal from car owners. Now most people are too lazy and ignorant to work on vehicles, drive it till it breaks.

You can check the trans temperature on the display. My 2013 shows it under vehicle info.

Letting the pan hang on 2 bolts while it drains is a good way to warp the pan. U should hold it up with something while u remove ALL the bolts and then let it drain while u let it down by hand.
@sp10684 ай бұрын
Hopefully , that little corner shield on the one pan bolt isn't that necessary. The bolt head sheared right off when I went to gently loosen it. Luckily, no pan bolt did the same. It's sheared off inside the retainer clip, but it didn't affect the pan bolts.

Those clips are annoying for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

Great video, Would this be the same process for a 2020 SXT AWD 3.6 Durango? We bought it new and have 38,000 miles now. I’m assuming now is a good time to drain and refill the trans?
@s33therfan7 ай бұрын
If you have the 5 speed it will be the same .. If you have the 8 speed it will be similar to this video below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqa7pICYpNN-fbM

Thanks for the fast reply. I honestly don’t know it’s my wife’s car. I think it’s the 5 tho. What’s the best way to determine that? I can pop it into the slap shift mode and see how many gears it lets me shift.
@s33therfan7 ай бұрын
If has the stubby shifter that is sort of like a joystick not actually a shifter , then it is an 8 speed. If you peek under the suv and see a plastic pan on the transmission it would be the 8 speed , otherwise 5 speed. Hope this helps.

I’m wanting to replace the condenser on my 2015 SXT and when I unhook the transmissions line to it, it’ll drip some. I’ll have to check the fluid after the job but is it safe to add new transmission fluid to old? And if it only dripped a little bit how much you think I should add?
@s33therfan9 ай бұрын
It is really hard to say , it would not be a lot. I would just check it after getting it replaced. Hope this helps.

Do you recommend to change the transmission gear oil? Specially the car is second hand I don't know if the previous owner he changed before, Dodg durango 2017 RT 8 cylinder the OD is 271000 KM
@s33therfan5 ай бұрын
I would do a drain fill , just to be sure . Thanks for the question.

@@s33therfan thank you for your reply, so you recommend to make the oil Change full, and any advice like the car should be cold or hot, change the oil partial is mean 1 liter every day??

So I checked and the 2017 gt is a sealed system. I’m assuming it’s the same as a differential service correct?
@s33therfan7 ай бұрын
Well they have plugs for filling and checking the level . The diff is easy but the transmission requires getting it up to temp running while filling. You need a steady trickle and it is full. Thanks for the feedback.

If you are just doing a drain fill , 5 to 6 quarts . I was replacing the tran and used around 7. Thanks for the question.

how many miles you recommend having the fluid changed. my dodge dealership in my area want $1200 to change it
@s33therfan11 ай бұрын
This penzoil full synthetic is really good transmission fluid , I probably wont change it until it has 30k on it. At that time I will only perform a drain fill not a flush. On another note this fluid change is not that bad , a lot of times you can drain and put back exactly what was removed and be spot on. Thanks for the question.

whats the proper amount of liters when changing the oil and filter?

For the transmission , you will start with 5 quarts and check it from there.

How did you get the bolts back on? Is there a certain way to put them in? All my bolts go in but 1
@s33therfan Жыл бұрын
I seem to recall the clip , that was made different to bolt the bracket , a little harder to align. I simply started them all loosely by hand before tightening to avoid crossthreading. They also make a replacement pan with a drain plug , makes it easier for the next fluid change. Have a link in the description. Hope this helps and thank you for the feedback.
