In this video I go over how to properly change the cotton and wick in a zippo insert. With this new technique your zippo wick going to stay the most saturated with fluid it has ever been. Having cotton on both sides of the wick and no chocking spots with cotton balls packed to tight. The flame stays well lit and keeps wick from burning up. Really love this technique let me know in the comments what u think !

Every now and then I go back to watch this video, and every time I am struck by your great passion for zippos. I mean it seriously: is it possible that the manager of the zippo factory has not yet decided to hire you as a consultant? I am sure that your great enthusiasm and skills could improve an already wonderful product.

I've watced many of your videos already since I have a zippo and I wanted to learn a few tips and tricks and this video came very handy since my lighter wasn't working. Now I've used this method and it lights even better. I also subbed because your videos are really good.

I got a method where you can save the fuel or you got problem with the fuel running out fast..take out your zippo cover and just coating the extra space with petroleum jelly..make sure you're coating at the side dont coating at the bottom..

At the time of writing this, buying cotton bacon is cheaper that the original stuff from Zippo, however if you do need the bottom felt piece, you will need to buy from Zippo from what I can tell. Thank you for the video, it was a great help to me.

Excellent method for regular size. Repacking and getting the wick right are always difficult for me on the Slim regarding weaving the wick. Going to experiment with this.

@@ZippoFanatic77 Just re-wicked but had to feed from chimney. Couldn't get it into the hole even with straight wick from bottom up on the Slim model. I pull it down, then clamp top of wick with forceps while I'm packing the cotton. I did use the stripped cotton ball method though. Yes, you gotta have that wick in nice contact with the cotton or rayon. Great you spoke to that, cause lots of people just jam balls in there without 360 contact. It was time for wick change, i was down to 1.5" and getting starvation symptoms today as a matter of fact, after i had pulled up wick a couple days ago. I have to top off daily anyway, smoking 8 cigars a day which don't light easy like cigs. With a Slim, that means daily top off or every other day. I like my Zip guaranteed ready to rock at any time though, so it's every day (30 seconds or less filling thru flint hole in felt pad).

Great video and great tutorial!!! I just bought my first zippo lighter and brand new it wasn't working the wick just was burning black and it was refusing to light (great quality control zippo......) I followed these instructions and firstly unpacked the cotton in the zippo the wick was no where to be seen until I reached the top the entire wick was bunched up at the top loooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder it wasn't working the fluid wasn't reaching it I didn't have cotton handy and since their cotton was still new I simply repacked their cotton using these instructions, first redoing the wick so it is looping back and forth to the end of the lighter, then put knife in to hold it down (was easier with knife in to pack the first side, at least with their cotton) Then put knife the other way and packed the other side of the wick then packed the bottom, put their sealing pad back on and put the flint and screw back in, hardly needed to strike it, immediately lit up a beautiful flame! Great instructions! Now my only challenge is knowing when I've filled it enough I keep overfilling it and the bottom pad gets completely soaked when I close it which I guess is not ideal 🤣

I'm going to give this a try, I have some left over Cotton Bacon left over. My daily Zippo currently has a Super Tank Oil Container that replaced most of (pretty much all) of the Rayon balls. It holds a ton more fluid but I wonder how it compares to the Cotton Bacon. The tank probably holds more fluid but fluid vs. evaporation I wonder which one offers better bang for buck.

So out of curiosity although I switched to a double torch butane insert I unpacked the original insert and it was even worse than the one you shown (bought new 2018 Zippo). The wick was all super bunched up at the top and only cotton below it. I repacked it following your method and I also got an extra piece back hahaha

my grandpa used kapok fiber as I live in Java, it seem kapok would absorb better and retain its fluffiness better than cotton when saturated with oil , I wonder if that would retain or increase fuel capacity better in lighter. also is there a way to connect old wick with new wick instead of throwing away half used wick, maybe we can connect it with cotton thread? or is there a place where we can buy much longer wick in the same girth and quality as zippo wick perhaps marketed differently for candle industry etc? thanks for the informative videos

Ive only just started buying Zippos a year ago. I have 3. One sentimental, which was my first until the lid seemed loose then i bought my first official one a plain metallic zippo. Do you have any advice for what i can do or where i can go to get the fixture between the lid and the body of the zippo repaired or replaced? Any tools i need to do it myself? Its the only thing i cant fix or improve on a zippo so far and im hoping to find a way haha

I use ko-gen-do Japanese organic cotton in mine. I remember the first time I bought some to try Vaping and everyone telling me how it was crap cause all the dark specks in it and they couldn’t wrap their tiny brains around the fact that is how natural cotton looks unbleached which gives no off flavor that way.
