From experience the top nut on the strut always seizes up. The hex in the stanchion rounds off. The way I got round it was to clamp the stanchion with mole grips and then was able to remove the nut. Trouble was I needed a new shock as well as spring.

It would be best to use new top clips/retainers, and also replace the sleeve at the bottom of the spring with new ones too, this part was not shown being fitted on the video actually. Also the mechanic would have worked much better removing the screen wipers and the side plastic covers :)
