How to change front suspension spring on Range Rover Evoque

This is certainly not the official way as they say you need to remove the hub nut / brake caliper etc but this worked for us when the dealer refused to help us with our low mileage ( 10K miles ) Range Rover Evoque.

Good little video-just remember to align the top bearing cup tabs with the tab on the bottom of the strut to get the correct camber 👍

Just a note to anyone who wishes !! The coloured marks go to the top of the strut not the bottom

Very helpful video. Thanks guys. 😎 My Wife’s Evoque suffered a locked up magnetic front shock absorber. The ride was horrendous as you have zero suspension travel on the effected corner. The tip with the piece of 2x4” worked perfectly 👍. I found I had to push my shoulder down on the hub to get the new shock in place but then I didn’t have a pry bar. Had no problems putting a trolley jack under lower ball joint to seat the shock in position. I left the 3 top retaining bolts just slightly loose while I used the jack. The shock just went in perfectly. Just be sure to line the cable up with the slot as shown in the video. Oh and use a copper/hide or dead blow plastic faced mallet so not to damage the hub when your bashing it😉.

I'm pretty sure you put that spring on upside down! Paint marks should be at the top. Also, another give-away is it looks to me like the strut itself is off centre to the spring when you put the top mounting plate / bearing on and let the spring compressors off. One other very important thing; the two plastic markers (sticky out bits of plastic) on the top bearing should align with the metal 'tang' located at the bottom of the strut (the one that goes down the vertical slot in the alloy knuckle). That way your camber and caster will be correct. I'm really glad you post your excellent video's but this one has a few errors that could do with some correction (text or re-narrated).

Hello I have a problem with my range rover 2015 normal suspension without electronics The car is very hard and doesn't absorb practically any undulation on the street, it looks like a lowered car, I would like to know if this is a problem with the spring or shock absorbers, thank you very much

The ride is not that soft on the Evoque - it may be that someone has fitted lower springs which are often stiffer. Also remember wheel and tyre choice an impact ride - if you have 20" wheels and low profile tyres that will have an impact.

I'm using 35 / 60 / R18 and the springs are original the suspension is very high but still it doesn't absorb the road imperfections thanks

The blue paint on the old spring was at the top, so are the springs the same both ends?

Hi- many parts are compatible but i dont think the springs are.

Should be similar - normally easier as you have no steering.

Alas no air but instead there are fairies in the shock absorbers.... OK not fairies but the shock absorber has some tricky electromagnetic particles on the fluid and the damping rates can be adjusted by changing the magnetic field around the valves in the shock absorbers... or something close to this....

@@L663 It's called Magnaride, my partners Evoque has the same. Sadly now I am looking at pricing for a shock replacement as the front off side unit is totally seized. It effectively means that there is zero give in the suspension .You can actually test this by applying pressure to bounce the car from above when stationary, all 3 corners have some give and compress/bounce as you would expect but the suspect corner has literally no give at all. Every slight bump causes a huge bang from this corner as you can probably imagine (basically that horrible thud you hear whenever you bottom out suspension). When it works it is great technology, when it works.....
