Thanks. I hate those silly clips, that's the only thing I'm worried about. But, appreciate the video! Into the garage!

This vid was helpful re. fitting the filter, but here's a story *(and urgent dilemma) : Getting the protective plastic plate covering the filter was a minor bind (the Roadster doesn't use nuts over the screws, but some round piece of metal with stars cut out in it). Anyway, worked that out and got them off. So, all we need to do is fit the fuel filter : ) Unfortunately, the rubber plugs won't come off both the ends of filter (access isn't easy either). One comes off nicely using a slight tap with a hammer and a screwdriver...almost home! : ) But.. the other end [clearly the filter is so old!] that the long metal pipe end sheers off nearer the base of the rubber plug and is wedged there!! Any net geniuses with any amazing solutions get back to me... pls. Sigh.

Do you notice some malfunction?? Or is just something to prevent dirty gasoline entering to the injection system?? How many miles requires this service??
@33gall4 жыл бұрын
It's a serviceable part and was on the car from new. You can see in the video how dirty the fuel was inside it so it prevents it blocking injectors and going into the engine, you'll see a small improvement in mpg too.

My car struggles to cold start u need to prime the ignition about 10 times to kick over could this be a bad fuel filter or pump ?

Try vice grips on it, not too tight and it should twist/pull off

@@33gall - Thanks G. Unfortunately about 2cm of the metal tubing is in the end of the rubber plug . (as said earlier). I'm going to use the 'right sized' drill bit to wedge into the metal pipe and pull the rubber plug off. Wish me luck : )

So far: Underneath the car I'm thinking furiously, lol. I'm forced to break the metal clasp around the filter (as the filter holding screw was totally rusted / fused and was going nowhere...sigh). The drill bit wedged into the metal pipe wasn't quite enough as the metal was so tight to the rubber ( I believe it's the original fuel filter - and it had SO much crap in it!). I then tried a sharp knife to gouge out some of the rubber around the metal edge - but couldn't get enough purchase. Went back to my drill bit set and noticed I had some micro drill bits (about inch / half long). Keeping the plug and the drill vertical (so I couldn't pierce the plug rubber - approx. 4mm thick), I drill around the metal pipe edge for almost ten minutes to loosen it from the rubber. Tried the flush drill bit 'pull out' test but still no luck. I leave the bit in the metal pipe and spray WD40 around the end of the pipe / rubber plug. Two tugs of the drill / pull of the plug .. and out the metal pipe comes!!! : ) So f........ pleased, lol! I connect up the fuel filter, patch up the clasp with electric tape and all is secure. The car starts third time and runs smooth. Now to test tomorrow to see whether it stalls. .. ☺ #EPICeffort$

Update: All is fixed. There's been; no further £75 'for not very much 'call out mobil mechanic fees / no £200 min. CCM send away costs / no £75 transporter costs / no garage telling you you need a new fuel pump fitted at £400 total or a new wiper motor or fuel injection system! There's just been a top brand fuel filter (reduced by 75% in a sale to £5), my travel and time costs, willingness to fit parts / problem -solve *and 60% of a £9 bottle of Redex to get my car back as before* ! SMH.

As I said at roughly 4mins I can only doo it with 2 hands so couldn't hold the phone and change it at the same time. It is pretty detailed though of what to do. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
