A torque wrench IS required to remove the glow plugs as this excellent video shows: 3:15 This is because the glow plugs are quite weak and will simply snap off if they are very tight (Corroded in) and you try too hard... If you just try to force them loose you will snap them clean off and your engine will be ruined!...If the plugs resist the maximum 16 Nm torque....STOP!!!. ..You should then soak the plugs in penetrating type oil overnight and then run the engine to full temperature before attempting another removal using the torque wrench

I was always taught to never remove anything with a torque wrench as it will put the calibration out of whack
@meckanicall Жыл бұрын
@@narrrold Not if the wrench has a reverse turn capability. many good quality ones can tighten (or loosen anti-clockwise) and still give the torque value or signal the torque limit.

One glow plug is really tight on my car don’t want it to snap it what should I do please I’ve seen that it should be soaked in penetrating oil and leave then attempt to remove is this true and been told best to do on a hot engine

You can use thread deoxidizers but it is better to contact a mechanic in difficult cases.

I noticed some of the caps are broken on my glow plugs. Do I have to replace whole harness? They work but saw when I did other work.
@autodocuk11 ай бұрын
It is necessary to replace the wiring of the glow plugs; if the caps are broken, problems may arise when starting the car in sub-zero weather.
@manojj585712 күн бұрын
does it need any caliberation or coding after replacing new glowplugs??
@autodocuk6 күн бұрын
It is usually not required. You can find this information in the technical documentation for car repair.

Why would you use a torque wrench set to the supposed tighten up setting to undo the plugs ?, clearly on the first plug, the wrench clicked on its torque limit and you had to exceed this point to undo the plug anyway so how is that different to just undoing with a normal socket wrench with careful pressure having first applied some WD40? They have to come out anyway.
