I have an oil filter wrench tool to remove the filter. Makes life much easier when the are stuck the way yours was.I am getting to a point in life where I do not want to work from a concrete floor. So I see a motorcycle bench in my immediate future. Biggest pain for an oil change would be a tie between the Ducati 600SS and my Aprilia RSVR. Both needed the fairing removed.

I've meant to get one for literally years but once I have a vehicle in my own paws I never over tighten them and then I forget to buy one again 😂 Yeah, since I hurt my back I've definitely seen the light and want one, but we'll see. I like having half the garage ready to pull a car in to to do work too. Dream garage would be like.....a 4 car size. Yeah anything with fairings removal requirements are a pain!

Ohhhhh...hiflow racing oil filter!!! Nice! Your new nickname is one hand. We will let people infer what they want! Given the direction of the drain bolt I would totally side stand the bike. Nice job, well done good sir. OC: In terms of oil changes the Busa is a pain, you have to remove the lower right fairing and the oil drips all over the headers......my ZX10 is the opposite, no fairing removal, clean drain.

Yeah fancy tricksy bits eh. Hahaha it's not the easiest to do but I seem to be improving on it :P Haha some people will be talking :P Yeah it made sense to try get as much out of there as possible. Thanks amigo. Yeah anything that you have to remove bits to do the simple stuff is a pain.

I think the bike I *least* enjoyed changing the oil on, was my BMW G650GS. But that's mostly because my other bikes were all Japanese (Kawasaki or Suzuki). Second would be my Triumph since I have to remove the skid plate to access the drain. But it's not too bad. Motul is such a solid brand. I always use their oil now. Nevermind the fact it smells good! Have you considered one of those tripods that has the bendable legs? They're fairly inexpensive and probably would be super helpful when working on your bikes. Every time I see you not using gloves with things like oil, or brake fluid, I admittedly want to fly my butt to the east coast and launch a box into your garage. I know you probably know the risks, but it can't be helped lol. The ones at Harbor Freight are actually pretty good. I use the dark blue/heavy duty ones for most things. Promise I won't be a nag beyond this comment! :) Take care and thanks for another very informative video!

Skid plate removal adds times to be fair, and jap bikes are definitely the easiest in my experience too! Hahaha that's so true, the 7100 smells so so good 😂😂 I have, I should do it I just spend all my money on bikes and bike things, I'm really a very bad youtuber 😂😂 I do need to order one tho. The good camera I like to use needs something pretty solid too, it's fairly heavy. Haha I know, I need to get another box of them, I'm much better than I used to be but still don't wear them enough. As soon as I get sweaty or rip one that's the end of that. I could honestly just borrow a box of gloves from work, yano, permanently borrow maybe 😂 I'll do better if I can 😂 Thanks! You too!

Great vid again. Will let you know re oil change on the gsx600f, still doing decorating on new kitchen and bathroom, then fitting out garage, so bike having to wait - sad. Your oil choice has helped me decide on Motul, now 5100 or 7100 - probably 5100 as I'm a tame (ish) rider? Glad you reinforced my opinion of not pre filling. Cheers, Andy.

The poor bike :P I'm sure all the boring adult stuff would understand if you abandoned them for a few hours :) 5100 should be absolutely fine for you, once you're not idling in traffic a lot it'd be fine. Otherwise I'd recommend the 7100. Pre filling is honestly for silly gooses.

UJM are as you say much the same. It is the model specific silliness that irritates. My wife's VT500, at the height of the " all Honda V engines lunch their cams" hysteria, where we had to sod about to add a quarter of a teaspoon of UC Oil . . . The FZR where as it had a one piece race fairing that had to be removed to get at anything and everything. My current bike just has a wire mesh thimble behind the oil drain plug the boings out into the oil pan every time. The oil manages to coat the skid plate every time so I am forced to clean it. It really does take exactly a litre of oil. I have just changed back to Castrol as my local guy sells it cheap. I wish there had been synthetics on the shelf when I was despatching as my 750F piston rings became totally gunked up, especially the oil ring itself. Too much heavy traffic and traffic light time. I fitted the sump, radiator and bits from a 900F needed to cure that. An oil change is the easiest thing to do, and will always save you money. Good work again, oh yes I loved the romantic star burst filter on tonights video! 👍

That's the thing that baffles me, why do they change so much between the models, like it can't be that big a deal to put the same sight glass and whatnot on each model, filters fair enough, different engines needs different filtration. Oh lovely, I wouldn't enjoy trying.to find that bloody thing either. Yeah for sure synthetic is a beautiful creation, slightly pricier but worth it. Any time I've scoped any of my engines that I've used Motul in they've looked great. Definitely need to get another scope. 100%, easy thing to do yourself, and do them early and often. Haha the lens was dirty, didn't spot it until I was editing 😂

Two things; you should be wearing the knee pads and have something to sit on or you'll be getting the housemaid's knee and the piles. There's a handy British product called a Boa I got one for the wife to open jar lids but the lad uses it for oil filters. The wife doesn't know because she never appreciated it, that's the last time I buy her a Valentine's present.

Thanks Dad. I appreciate you're looking out for me, but I'll be grand. The intent of this was to show people you can open an oil filter with tools that almost everyone has. I'd buy an oil filter wrench if it really ever bothered me, I abhor over tightening filters anyway so it'll be good for the rest of it's life with me :) Hahaha you should quietly demonstrate it some day.

I'm buying the Motul 5100 and the same filter as you. Is that okay ? Or should I go with the 7100? is the filter the Hiflofiltro Racing Oil Filter Kawasaki Z900 / RS 17-24 HF303RC ? THANK YOU!

The 5100 would be absolutely fine, long term fulls synthetic is better as it keeps engine internals cleaner. And the HF303 would be fine for you unless you're doing a lot of track, the RC has a slightly higher flow and has the nut for safety wiring :)

Man, that filter was on there way too tight! I always prefer to change the oil before it gets too dirty. Some people see it as a waste of money, I'm sure. I cringe a little bit when I see oil changes where the oil is completely black!

I had to wrench on it with the screwdriver and all, insanely tight. Probably put it on with dry seal and then tightened it with a filter wrench like a silly goose. Oh same, dirty oil makes me sad. It's the easiest thing to do too.

Looks like some Motorcycle Shops are like Autotechs who tighten Drain Bolts and Filters so tight that they expect they will NEVER come off again. It's not necessary to tighten Drain Bolts and Filters that way. Just tighten snug and secure ---is enough. BTW, the Z900RS is 100% far better engineered for this procedure than the ZRX which is a royal pain. Doable, but still poor engineering. The older Z1900 was easy. Even the Oil Filter held inside the block had its own Drain Bolt.

Yeah it certainly seems that way, it's so unnecessary !! Exactly, I've never had one leak and if anything I'm too gentle with them. It really is, very easy to get to everything, refill, and drain! Oh god that doesn't sound like fun!

Every 12 months is recommended for car oil changes as oil becomes acidic from carbon and sulphur deposits. Is it the same interval for bikes or could you let it go a bit longer? Have you ever used fully synthetic oil or stick to mineral based?

Same thing for bikes, you don't want to leave it in there too long. Plus if you do a lot of track days or just love up near the redline you'd want to change it a bit more often! The oil I used in this is fully synthetic, Motul 7100. I use semi synth in everything else, Motul 5100

Hey! Nice video. Out of curiosity - why do you think vstrom prefers half syntetic? I put 7100 in my vstrom 650 (2023), do wondering if I made a mistake!

Well specifically the 1000, and only because it quietened the clutch down significantly, which is a known thing on the 1000. Synthetic is absolutely fine and will not damage anything, just noisier on my bike :)
