Due to problems with fuel contamination of the engine oil on these honda engine's, avoid topping it up..add the recommended 3.7 quarts of oil
@momopro24992 жыл бұрын
For anyone who is not a mechanic, please do not add 5 quarts to a 1.5L engine. IT WILL RUIN YOUR ENGINE! The oil capacity for 1.5L engine is 3.4 quarts without changing the oil filter and 3.7 quarts with a new oil filter. I REPEAT, DONT NOT add 5 quarts to your engine!

I have done over 300 oil changes on my own cars over my 45 years of car ownership (just did the Odyssey yesterday and planning on the Civic today). From my young days of making the typical mistakes on my old beat up Vega and Thunderbird (forget to put oil plug back in, filter gasket stuck on mount plate, wrong filter in box and didn't compare filter number/mount pre-install). I decided to watch this to pick up and tips and tricks from a pro. You are good at providing practical tips and useful guidance quickly without alot of filler, so it is always useful to watch your videos even for something I have alot of experience with. Lotta good stuff in here for the beginner and experienced DIYer. I like the dry rag for grip & hand-tighten only, the filter wrench selection tips, and the half filter prefill on angled filters to preload oil while avoiding spills. Good stuff as usual. Keep it up and thanks!

@backyardchevy3282 жыл бұрын
They got some weird new method on these vehicles where the computer calculates the oil life based on time since last oil change, miles driven so thats why the oil percentage doesnt quite work as they would in previous vehicles where the maintenance light would automatically come on every 5k miles..more-so since that generation honda has a problem with oil dilution so they dont want oil to be in the engine so long
@townninjas22672 жыл бұрын
Is oil for the hybrid the same? I’ve heard some oils are not good for Honda what oil you recommend?

I don’t blame you, it may be my fault but do you know why this may have happened?? @backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
I like em both..but as far as extended performance oil, i would never wait so long between oil changes so it kinda nullifies the point of getting oil meant to last 15k miles...while advanced fuel economy has aditives that keep the oil viscosity thinner to supposedly save gas but not sure its at all noticeable...i guess if i had to choose between both id prefer the extended performance

Thanks for the video. 0:27 Jack stand on the tow hook - is this safe? I'm having difficulties finding a good place to put jack stands on my 2018 Accord. I jack up the lift point behind the driver-side wheel, but I can't seem to put my Pro-LifT T-6903D jack stand on the pinch weld a little to the right of that lift point (which is what I see some other people do)... The jack stand seems to push into the carpeted underside here.

Thank you...yes the tow hook bolts up to the subframe in the front and is a strong support..but i leave both the jack and stand stand together..that area where the cutout is just behind where i lifted it? You said your going to put 3.7 quarts of oil and that is going to be the capacity. But later you put the rest of what was left in the bottle. The bottle label says 5 quarts, was this bottle not new when you started or did you remove some? I did my kids car oil change with my kid and we used only 4 quarts and that is it. Thankyou for the video.
@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
Well i added a lil less than half a quart to the filter..then added the 3.7 quarts to the car making it just above 4 quarts in engine..then i started it so it built up oil pressure and filled oil filter completely...then waited about 10 mins for oil to settle..and when i checked dipstick it showed level to low mark..so low to full mark is about a quart missing so added the remainder which was about .8 of a quart
@adrpals23243 жыл бұрын

The 1.5 liter engine calls for 3.7 quarts. I was taught to go by the documented capacities requirement and not the dip stick as dip sticks can vary. I could see adding 4 quarts but it looks like you added 5 quarts. Unless you have the 2 liter engine in my opinion you added too much.
@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
@@dansams1902 well i did find it odd that to get to the full mark it took all 5 quarts..from a 3.7 quart stated in manual...but i do go by dipstick just due to the fact i do oil changes on older vehicles and if people dont maintain em or check em often and they burn oil it can cause them engine problems..so putting it on full mark kinda helps add that extra layer of safety net for em
