A lot of filters come with a plastic insert to put into the filter housing after you’ve undone the 3/8ths cap and that allows it to drain the oil in the filter cartridge! In case someone doesn’t have that cool tool!

Thanks for the video!! I have the exact same truck and plan to do all my maintenance myself. I'm kind of old school in thinking and believe 10,000 miles is a little too long for an oil change. I know you used 0W-20 but what do you think about going with 5W-30? The reason I ask is because this engine was originally specd for a 30 weight but due to Cafe standards they started running the 20W. I live in AZ and it get hots here as we're currently in the 110 degree range and was thinking that a 30W would do a little better with the heat. The manual gives a little leeway on what you can use.

Synthetic oil tend to be thinner anyhow - 5w-30 should be fine in synthetic.

i have a 2019 honda, i took it to to the dealer to get the first oil change cause it came with the purchase of the vehicle, i recently did the 2nd oil change at 10K and it looks like the kid who did the first "FREE" oil change at the dealer nearly stripped the drain bolt (2 corners of the bolt looked rounded off). I was still able to get the bolt off using a 6 point socket, but i will need to get a new drain bolt...

I ordered directly from Motivx website. I got the kit without the funnel and it was cheaper than amazon by $5. I also got another $4.50 discount because Honey found a code for me.

Make sure to lube the threads on oil filter housing with white grease. They can be very hard to remove without, most shade tree mechs over tighten..

Nice video sir....I have the same truck and plan to change the oil at 3K on mine and then let Toyota do it again at 10K. I just want to get any metal shavings out of the new engine. Are you going to change your Differential fluids before Toyota's recommended change? Do you think its worth doing?

Good video, thanks! I highly rec the ValvoMax oil drain plug. I've been putting them on my vehicles for several years. Makes changing oil quicker with less mess and reduces concern of over tightening, thread issues and crush washers. Never had any leak issues.

Now why didn't Toyota put an access panel on the under-engine shield on the regular Tundra, so you don't have to remove that shield? The plastic filter covers do have a torque spec, it's 18.5 ft/lbs, but 20 is ok. We get them in for oil changes installed a lot tighter than that, and I've even had some where I went to remove the little metal cap, and the entire filter housing cover came off with the little cap... obviously we don't replace the little gasket under the cap, you can't remove it if it's that tight. When I reinstall the cap itself, I usually torque those to 10-12 ft/lbs. Yes, the aftermarket metal cover is a better unit over the plastic one. If your truck is a few years old, or over 50,000 miles, you should replace the plastic cover. Upgrading to the metal covers makes them the cover for the rest of the truck's life. As far as the capacity on these engines, it depends on the year of the truck which oil quantity it takes. All of those stated were oil capacities for this engine, but again it depends on what year it is as far as how much it takes. The 5.7L has been dropped for the newest trucks, and they now use a 3.3L turbo charged engine, and I believe they went back to a spin-on filter for them.

It says in the video. 10,000 miles with 0W-20 oil, and a little less if you use 5W-30.

the recommendation for the 2020 at 10,000 miles but I do every 5000 miles so every 5000 miles I do it myself and the other 5000 mile I send it to the dealership It is peace of mind plus since you can’t see what the dealer do I can’t trust that even though I check the oil after I leave the dealer but we are human we can make mistakes
