That Dodge hanging back in a lot of shots reminds me of of some Top Gear challenges. If you fail, you will have to drive the Dodge. I would take the dodge. I do love Toyotas but they need a bit more innovation, better power plants. That said, I would drive a new Tundra in a heart beat, I just don't know if my cash would end up at a Toyota dealership. Looking forward to the reast of the review, and as always keep up the excellent work.

Hey guys great review as usual. Toyota really needs to upgrade the pro in my opinion, make it worth more than just a different suspension package. I mean they even put the same tires on the pro as they do the TRD off-road! I would like to see a true rear locker none of this limited slip stuff, some Goodyear duratracs or BFG K02. They need to really set the Pro apart from the TRD off-road model. Ram did it perfectly with the power wagon. Speaking of power wagon I saw you guys brought that on the trail how did it do??
@AdventureVehicleReviews
@AdventureVehicleReviews 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, I agree. The TRD PRO is just almost there. With some more aggressive tires and at least a rear locker Toyota would have something much more serious. None the less, Tundra is a great truck, I mean a really great truck. In the (somewhat) current configuration, they've been serving people well since 2007 . The Power Wagon was a great support vehicle. Our crew was nice an comfy in the Wagon. No surprise, it gobbled everything up. Somethings it had do a little slower than the Pro. The Bilteins on the TRD Pro our impressive.

good video guys, I must ask though, that last hill at the end, did you disengage traction control and enable auto lsd? I own a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro and holding down the traction control button for 3 seconds engages auto LSD and disables traction control at the same time (both lights come on). with this I manage to blast through deep snow and questionable trails in 2wd no problem.
@AdventureVehicleReviews
@AdventureVehicleReviews 7 жыл бұрын
Great question. For that section, we just put the truck into 4lo which provides a more aggressive use of the A-Trac system. But on the first day in the snow, we had LSD activated and Traction control off. And in those shots of the trucking over steering back and forth on the desert road I had the traction control off in 2wd.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but no Tundra has ever been equipped with an A-Trac system. Believe me I wish our Pros came with it as well as a rear locker like the tacomas. I've run into many obstacles where a locker would have made an awesome difference and less skinny pedal but unfortunately, 4LO or High, we have an open differential with a ton of torque and a sub par LSD. Don't even get me started on that traction control system....Kills all the fun whether it's on or off!! Cool video though 🤘🏼
@AdventureVehicleReviews
@AdventureVehicleReviews 7 жыл бұрын
ST3F3N thanks for the comment. But we have to disagree. All Tundra 4wd models come with A-Trac. That said, Toyota could do a better job of matching Tundra's off-road systems to be on par with what's offered in the Tacoma's. f0x672 Learn something new everyday! I had no idea sorry for the assumption. Came from a Tacoma and as you mentioned I expected a button to engage it or atleast a light in the dash. Strange they never advertised the truck as having it.
@f0x672
@f0x672 7 жыл бұрын
ST3F3N, I don't know why but my comment disappeared lol. essentially for anyone else who reads this, both A-trac and Auto LSD are the same. Taco's and 4Runners use A-trac which I believe controls the whole driveline hence engagement in 4lo. On the Tundras, it doesn't matter if its 2hi,4hi,4lo. However it only controls the rear axle on them, hence why whipping donuts is cake. Just hold down the traction control button for 3 seconds, it engages auto LSD and shuts off the setting in the ECM to derate the engine in a low traction situation. I believe when it's in 4wd it will act completely like A-trac. I personally never screwed around with it in 4hi/lo yet but I believe theres a video floating around here on youtube of someone mall crawling one at a loading testing out the system. I wish the Tundra TRD Pros came equipped with crawl control and descent control like the taco and 4runner but at the same time, I enjoy the basic 4wd function to really test my driving abilities without a computer helping out.

Do you think the lack of a locking rear differential hindered you in any way? Were there times when having locking rear diff would have helped you? Thanks, new subscriber here
@AdventureVehicleReviews
@AdventureVehicleReviews 7 жыл бұрын
mictdave1 thanks for the question. For this adventure the Tundra made short work of most obstacles. Had we done more technical driving on really uneven terrain then lockers would have probably been handy. It's my feeling that most people who wheel in a Tundra won't need lockers The A-trac and LSD are good systems that pretty much get the truck through 90% of obstacles.

Nice! I think the Rebel is a slightly better daily driver and family truck. But the Tundra TRD Pro is way more fun off-road. So many pros on cons when comparing each. That’s a tough decision.
