You forgot to a MAJOR part to this to show views. This with the new Oil Filter; Step 1 with new oil filter make sure to not let get dirty in anyway, Step 2: dip your a finger into the NEW oil only and apply a little oil with your finger on the ring of the oil filter before installation. Step 3 do not over tighten oil filter just about 1/4 inch turn after hand tightening. Reason for applying oil to filter o-ring is so it doesn't bunch up when tightening improper seal = potential leak.

Awesome video man. I just got me one of these bikes, and was worried about finding a video to teach me to do a few basics, this video along with your spark plugs video were brilliant.. so glad you did them, THANKS!

coat the oil filter seal before install, will come off easier when you do your next oil change. It also helps let the filter seal not bite on the engine and slide, that way it wont bind up and kink on the filter, causing a leak. And oil filters are HAND TIGHTEN ONLY. Never tighten with wrench or filter cup. Manufacture spec for oil filter tightening is 3/4 to a full turn of the filter after its touching the block. Any tighter and it will be overkill. Will be almost impossible to remove next time

Good video... But the be only takes 3.2 quarts and next time you should drain out then remove filter! Oh yeah and we have the same bike. It's "NOT" a 636 it's a 599 which is a 600. 2008 ZX-6r. Thanks for sharing the video with others though. Ride safe.

Good video. two things to note though for others. when you put the new filter on make sure you apply some oil to the seal on the filter to make sure it doesn't leak. second make sure that you dont over tighten the drain plug when putting it back on. most blocks are made of aluminum now and can be stripped pretty easily by over-tightening them. nice bike
@B0o0o0gieMan12 жыл бұрын
great video, i have question don't you drain the oil first (open the nut & drain oil) then remove the oil filter? or it doesn't matter
@ItsericsView12 жыл бұрын
Who the hell cares what engine size it is? Did it help you change your oil or not lol
@seankennedy916311 жыл бұрын
You don't have to. If the filter sits sideways I don't, If I can put some oil in the filter before installing it and I know it wont spill out when I am screwing it on to the housing I will put a little in there. Its not necessary though

Nice video dude, going to do mine tomorrow, was going to leave the filter cause I CBA taking off the plastics but obviously you don't have to lol. Cheers.

so when you took your oil filter off did you make a mess all over that side of the motor (water pump, plastics, block)? I didn't expect much of anything to come out after I had already drained the oil but got a lot all over the side of the bike and soaked the foam on the bottom fairing. at least next time I'll know to make a little oil ramp :-)

@06675Daytona ya i only got the fram because they didnt have the filter at the auto parts shop. I ordered a K&N to change it before I go to Daytona bike week. Torque wrench is also definitely on my Xmas list.

Did the same today (3 litres) looked full, started it up and let it idle for 5 mins and the level in the glass drops as the oil works through the engine.
@ItsericsView12 жыл бұрын
@B0o0o0gieMan Correct. Open the oil cap and drain oil. When it.s almost done draining, then I take off the filter.

You are pretty tall. Is it un-comfy for you to ride or did your body adapt? I am 19 and 6'2 and I just purchased a 2007 zx6r yesterday and I had a 5 hour drive home I was so sore. So I hope my body adapts,

The first time i changed the oil it took me ages to get the filter off it was so tight, i ended up having to punch a screwdriver through the whole thing, I had to put so much force I needed a friend to hold the bike down. When I put the new one on I made it hand tight only, one year on and I'm changing it again- I cannot get it off, I've got the tool everything it is TIGHT be warned Also the manual says replace the air filter IMMEDIATELY after riding in rain.... I wouldn't pay too much attention
@darkninja6710 жыл бұрын
sucks where Kawasaki placed those oil filters, add to that how tight they are from the factory.
@wolframized11 жыл бұрын
The manual was probably written by small people with small hands...got the hint? If you are an American biker (or most countries with good size men). You should have more than enough strength to tighten the filter beyond it's torque spec. Most oil filter wrenches are not made to install oil filters. Just remove, such as the one in this video. I've been working on cars since the 90's, trained by a 40 year master mechanic. You tighten any filter with a wrench in a shop and watch the laughter.
