How To: Change pitch of a song in Garageband

In this tutorial, I will explain how you can change the pitch of a song or vocal in Garageband for Mac. You can pitch a song up or down to suit your mixes, mashups or original songs. Any comments please leave them in the comments section below!

Hi guys, so for those who want to change the pitch of their instrumentals: -Open Smart Controls -Click on the 'i' button -Click on 'Master' button -Once you place your mouse over 'Channel EQ' there should be something that looks like a power button, two horizontal lines with buttons on them, and then two arrows that point up and down. Click on the arrows. -Scroll through the drop-down menu and click 'pitch' -Click 'pitch shifter' -Adjust your pitch up and down!

How do I change the key/chord range of an instrumental? Ex: I'm doing a cover of a song but, the original key of that the song is too low for me. How do I change it to a higher key? I normally sing is D major. And this song is set in the key of C major.

If you have an voice track, (you can download instrumental from itunes and drag and drop into a voice track in garage band) then try what this guy did. If it's a midi file, you can transpose the key by changing the key at the top of garage band from C major to D major. It's theoretical, however

so this is for like if you want to transpose a piece to a higher key. if you want to do something like that, where there piece starts in one key and then shifts to another, you manually have to edit and/or create a track for the song. at least, i think so...

I think you can cut the audio halfway - as in split it, and then create a NEW audio track and tweak that one so it has a lower pitch, y'know? Then MOVE the part that you want changed down to that NEW track. Voila. I think.

Yep, that would work. If you split the actual clip into wherever you want it to get higher, you can manually change each individual section's pitch. It just takes longer and it should be a real feature.
