Your knowledge is paying dividends 5 years into the future. Thank you very much for this. Though i needed to remove the bumper to get access. Now I know I dont have to.

Good job on the video but there was a few key steps that was not included such as the proper way to take off the transmission fluid lines. Also you skip the step to remove the last screws from the radiator on the lower driver's side. After looking at the video a few times I notice the other person assisting you pointed down when you first tried to lift the radiator and it would not come out. While I appreciated the attempt to complete the video in at a rapid pace, those small details cause me a few a little extra time when I remove my radiator using this video as my guide. Including those would have made the job easier. Thanks

Hi, I really appreciate the honest feedback. It was very hard making a video on this and it was all trial and error. No one really makes any detailed videos on diy for Mercedes Benz especially the w164/x164 SUVs. It’s a very tight spot and hard to get the camera for a lot of things but I gave it my best to help others out

I did this job on a 2006 ML350. I did not have the small oil cooler in front that was shown in the video. Instead there is a cylinder shaped cooler or something. There were actually three harder to get to bolts. Two at the front sides, near the bottom, hold the lower part of the shroud to the radiator. The other one, at the bottom of the driver side of the radiator holds a line block from that cylinder to the radiator. For the front shroud bolts, I found that I could reach around and under to get to them with a ratchet (air ratchet, in this case) after disconnecting everything else, popping the radiator up out of the lower grommets, and pushing it back (to make a gap between the front shroud and the back of the bumper cover). The bolt that holds the line block can just be seen from underneath behind the Torx bolt that holds the bottom end of the windshield washer reservoir. I was able to remove that with a ratchet wrench from underneath and behind. Only a tiny range of motion is possible, so it was a lot of one clicks with a finger poked though from the front to keep the bolt moving in only one direction. Putting it back in after replacing the radiator was also a pain. I guess Mercedes designed this setup so they can install the whole assembly (front shroud, condensor, cooler, radiator, and probably the fan and its shroud) as a unit, but it certainly makes for a pain when trying to replace just the radiator.

Thanks. That was really helpful. I need to replace the lower big radiator hose. Do I need to do all of this or can I get to it from underneath?
@MrCARman Жыл бұрын
A smaller/skinnier hand can get it from underneath, otherwise you have to do it like in the video You are very welcome, Thank you for subscribing to the channel and sharing this video with others🙏🏼

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Very helpful as I do research on doing this job for a GL350 bluetec. How long do you estimate the job takes. Looked like you finished at night... Also, did you need to top off trans fluid level after the job was completed? I assume yes.
@jayflores46923 жыл бұрын
Hi MrCarMan, I have a couple of questions, did you loose alot of Transmission fluid, I belive these transmissions are sealed and is it true you need to drain the power steering fluid in order to prevent air damaging the steering pump? I need to replace the radiator on my ML350 and it has a 7 speed transmission, thank you for this awesome tutorial.

How do I top up the transmission fluid is there a way to know how much I put in, also when you were removing those line was the ac line affected did you have to refill your ac
@tomtamshen72772 жыл бұрын
The video does not address trans fluid nor breaking ac lines. These are two very costly items that should have been addressed.

Small block radiator - it just doesn't "small ratchet out". How did you unscrew it with the support still on? Also, the bottom bolts on driver's side that hold the radiator in. How did you remove those without removing the bumper? Any tips on the passenger side bottom large hose clamp - how did you remove it? Decent video but what should take 4 hours winds up taking 8.

@MrCARman5 жыл бұрын
It’s best to do it ASAP, because mine completely cracked and i had to pull out on the side of the freeway when it had happened. So best to do it before that happens
@lenin27805 жыл бұрын
Yes mine it start with add more coolant then check and on the top of the hose the plastic has a line crack. Put glue and fix it good but now is leaking more from under the other part on the plastic so I order the new radiator and hope I can put it on Saturday Rhanks

That radiator was replaced once before. How do I know? Because you did not show that lower right bolt that needs to be removed by taking the ENTIRE front end off through the wheel wells.
