Isn't copperspray between the steel brake disc and aluminium wheel causing galvanic corrosion?
@autodocuk
@autodocuk Жыл бұрын
Yes, copper grease can react chemically with aluminum discs. Therefore, if copper grease is used on aluminum surfaces, it is necessary to follow the operating conditions and regularly check the condition of the parts to avoid undesirable consequences. More precisely which grease is recommended, please refer to the technical documentation for your vehicle.

THE TIGHTENING FORCE USED IS NOT THE PROPPER ONE ! • Audi Caliper Bracket Bolts = 100Nm or 71.4 ft-lbs, of torque plus 90° • Audi Caliper Mounting [Guide] Bolts = 35Nm or 26 ft-lbs, of torque • Audi Lug Bolts = 120Nm or 89 ft-lbs, of torqu AN PLEASE LET THE PEOPLE KNOW TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PUSH THE PISTON OUT !!!! VERY SAFETY IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW

My manual says 100Nm plus 100 degrees. It also says to replace the bolts rather than refit the ones that come off

Great video. I noticed this only covers the Saloon, do you have one for changing discs/rotors on the A4 B8 Avant? Thanks.

If you own an Audi and plan on doing any maintenance yourself, it's expected of you to buy a RossTech VCDS cable. If $200 for a cable is too much money for you then you really have no business owning an Audi. I've done every bit of maintenance on my 2010 A4 since i bought it new and VCDS has been practically mandatory every time i worked on the car.

great video! question; is the caliper carrier bolt torque spec really only 75nm? I would have thought it would be more. I'd seen some other reference to this being more like 196nm for the front and rear carrier bolts?

Normally this is an easy task but I cannot get the caliper bracket bolts off, I have tried heat and a very strong impact, what the he!! did the factory put on these bolts? I have changed countless rear over the last 30 years and have never experienced something like this! I got one off and there was some white fluid caked on the bolt….seriously Audi? Anyone experience this and have any tips?
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 3 жыл бұрын
Most likely the bolts have become very strong or acidified. We recommend contacting the service for proper dismantling, so as not to damage the chassis of the car.

I just kept spraying it with penetrating fluid, using the impact, and repeat until it eventually came loose. Make sure to spray the other side of the bolt too! It is hard to get to but use the straw on your can to hit it between the rotor and the dust shield. Also, when I finally got my bolt out, it did not come out easily once it finally broke loose. The impact struggled to get it out the entire length of thread. And like you said I had some type of white residue caked inside the threads on the bolt as well. Almost looks like some sort of lock tight. Definitely not corrosion either.

@@MrGhoulie white stuff is lock-tite and the entire bolt was painted with it, ridiculously overboard. The only way I’ll get other bolt out is remove lower control arm (or lower out of way at minimum) so that I can get impact somewhat straight shot to bolt. Absolute ridiculous design, brakes are meant to be replaced frequently they should be easily accessible. Wife loves the car but Audi seriously!

@@msk3905 White locktite? I think you're mistaken. It's probably anti seize that is just to old and crusty to do its job.

@@LBCAndrew I'm hitting with an impact rated 1200ft lbs break away while feeding 120psi to it, do you really think this is caked on anti seize? Doubtful

You didn't pump the brake pedal ,when the job was done to push the piston out! ( could be very dangerous )!

*** WARNING *** DO NOT add copper grease to the caliper carrier bolt (16:15-16:20) this can lead to over torqueing of bolts... although I also suspect their quoted 75NM is incorrect!
