Having done this same installation, you do not need the spring compressor. A jack is more than enough to compress the spring and align the bolt. Also for the driver side you need to disconnect and drop the rear exhaust a little in order to access all of the bolts. Also there's a rubber mount that is stuck in the upper spring perch. You generally want to pull that out and lub and align it on the spring before putting it back in because it generally is shifted a little when you pull the spring out. Otherwise a well done tutorial.

My thoughts exactly. Thank you for the clarification.

Why use a spring compressor & also lower the control arm? Isn't it usually one or the other? Doesn't this tool allow you to further compress the spring so that it simply slides out?

Really good tutorial. Where from have you bought the inside spring compressor tool? I've done rear springs on my w203 in a hillbilly fashion - car was jacked up from underneath the rear differential, put on jack stands and then using the floor jack I pushed against the inside side of the arms holding the springs. Then I have released slowly and springs came out easily. Installed new springs and new tophat bushings using the floor jack. Then I carefully inserted the screw back and tightened the bolts. I know some of you will say that it is like defusing a grenade which stands to blow any minute now :D

Like you said great video! I just wish this came out 9 years ago when I first did this on my W201😪.

I don’t understand why this guy did not compress the spring more, I just did this job and did not have to anything else.

Is alignment needed after this job? Thank you

Yes, it is recommended to adjust the wheel alignment after this replacement.

Actually it would be much better if this video shows height measurement from the floor to the top of wheel arches - before & after changing the spring. Maybe also to include the height of new springs vs height of old springs. Also how many km accumulated in the odometer. Regards.

I have an observation to express - on most all of your videos, you show spraying of the wheel hub with copper grease on the wheel mating face. This is actually (long term) going to actually cause corrosion to happen between the alloy wheel & the steel hub - electrolysis caused by copper (Cu, 29) & iron (Fe, 26) being higher on the periodic table than aluminium (Al, 13). The Alloy wheel, as well as the iron hub (to a lesser extent) become sacrificial to the copper & will deteriorate over time. A better alternative would be another version of the grease that is based on aluminium or possibly ceramic grease. The same process happens if a bolt put through a bush with an alloy centre is coated with Coppaslip. I know this from experience - when you try to take it off again a few years later, you will find it has seized solid. Most annoying. Might be worth considering next time you have bushes to replace. 🤔

The torque wrench is used incorrectly, might want to have a look at that for the coming videos.
