Dude, I love your style. My '05 Mazda 3 hit 165k miles and my mileage was starting to take a hit so I replaced my plugs and your video was not only informative, but entertaining and not overly long or complicated like other videos. Thanks for everything!

Thank you for sharing this video! I needed to change the spark plugs in my own Mazda3 and not being a car guy, I was unsure if I could do it. But after consulting this video among other reference sources, I successfully changed them. Thanks again!

I just found your video and because your tools listed got out them out down stairs and got nice Iridium plugs from Canadian Tire. Change it in the customer lot and had the best drive home after 😁

FYI, Dielectric grease is not the same as conductive grease. In fact, they are opposites! The video correctly shows use of conductive grease for electric contacts, but at 4:22 he incorrectly mentions you could also use dielectric grease. Dielectric grease insulates and is commonly used for ignition systems that have high voltage spark plug wires to INSULATE the rubber boots on the wires and to help them slide onto distributor cap and/or coil.

Hey Bud, I really like your videos. Very informative. I own a mazda3 2007 and am going to use all this how to info to maintain my car. One thing that you could do to make videos a bit better is to mention where you got the components(filter, sparkplugs etc) from and prices or provide links in the description. Nonetheless, great videos. please keep them coming and Thank you. Go Canada! I'm from Toronto :)

Is it the same thing for a Mazda 3 2015? My car is at 50k miles and I haven’t changed the spark plugs. It shakes when in idle. But I also hear a deep noise when I turn the car on. But then it goes away. However comes back when I accelerate. Mildly tho
@daoudaqtash9243
@daoudaqtash9243 4 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to change at 50K. Mazda uses NGK laser iridium and those plugs are good til 150K.

Dielectric grease is a silicone based grease that's great on the end of the coil park, not for the plug threads. Only use a nickel or copper based anti seize to prevent the plugs from "seizing" in place. If you listened carefully, you could hear the plugs squeal when removed and re-inserted. Not a good thing! Anti seize only!
@ericr5085
@ericr5085 6 жыл бұрын
Do not use anti seize on this spark plug, it's already treated to deal with the head. If you use it you could be damaging the head.

Thank you for the video. I have 120,000 Miles so far on my Mazda 2007 3 Hatchback. I was quoted at almost 500$ for maintenance and replacement for these spark plugs. A few questions since I am a total NOOB... 1. How many Spark plugs are there to replace all of them? 2. Are they all the exact same? 3. What does gaping mean, and how tight is too tight vs. too loose? 4. If I mess up I assume my car won't even start? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Might give it a go if I can have the help of a friend with this
@VishPleasee
@VishPleasee 8 жыл бұрын
+Annie Kazuba 1) there are usually 4 spark plugs 2) they are all the same size 3) basicallly tighten until it doesnt tighten anymore, dont use alot of pressure 4) yes these help start the car, so if they are not done properly it will not start the car

I noticed that you said "dielectric or conductive grease", but a dielectric is by definition an insulator (i.e. low conductivity). You probably don't want to coat all your electrical connectors with an insulator so you might want to add a comment/pop-up text thing that says use conductive grease/not dielectric grease.

Great video, the sad part is that I replace my spark plugs before seeing the video, and used a Bosch :(, and now I can´t start the car, all the indicators turn off and all the needles are going top to bottom. From the horror stories that you heard, do you have any tip or reference to solve this issue?

As A_Person1234 mentioned, Dielectric grease is insulative, not conductive. You really need to edit your video and stick a note over the picture so people don't follow your directions. The video does a great job of illustrating the steps needed to change the plugs but anyone who follows your directions and puts dielectric grease on the spark plug tip is going to run into problems. You use dielectric grease to create a seal so moisture doesn't get into the ignition coil plug. You don't put it on any connectors, battery terminals, or anyplace where you want to promote connectivity.
@ghostlyrich

i will throw it up. I see many mechanics put dielectric grease on battery terminals and connectors to protect them from corrosion

People say all kinds of stupid things about spark plugs. The truth is 1. Copper have the shortest life span but have the best spark. 2. Iridium have a good spark and good life. 3. Platinum have the worst spark but its lifetime is by far the best.

Ok, So does this sound like spark plugs? My engine will idle at 2k then just idle down to 500 or is this some thing worse
@ghostlyrich

thats regular if when you first start the car it idles at 2k then when you hit a few stop lights it idles at 500k. i would suggest cleaning your throttle body if you havent yet. Check out my youtube video on it its really easy to do and can clean up the idle

Could you redo this video please. We didn't see you remove the bolt thingies or the other thingies that the bolts were holding in. I don't know the names of them, but for people who aren't familiar with car parts and tools, you have to show them every step of the way and the names of the items. Like when you said a 8mm or 15 mm....an 8mm or 15 mm what.😕 You have to say what the thing is that you need in 8mm 15mm.

Hey ghost, I've noticed after I replaced my battery that my car has been idling a lot lower than it did before, before it would idle around 1, now it idles around 300 and 250. Could this be a spark plug problem?
@ghostlyrich
@ghostlyrich 9 жыл бұрын
Nope i would clean your throttle body. I have a video on it. Carbon can build up on the throttle plate causing it to starve the engine at idle. Also when you change a battery it will reset some of rhe car computer so it has to relearn your driving habits
