I changed my plugs 100k mile ago. Well, were at 200k. Time to put in work as the truck is running like trash and 1) dealership wanted $524 to do them. FkU. 2) Local small shop wants to run all sorts of diagnostics on a presumed plug and/or coil pack issue. 3) do it yourself. You'll do it right and not rushed like a regular shop to meet demands.

Use your head. Its an aluminum head with platinum thread on the plug. Hand tight is fine. Over doing it will jack up head threads.

Luckily I work on my own truck when I can because the comment about the coil connection plugs may break and no big deal isn’t the type of guy you want working on your truck. Now I agree. The chances of it coming unplugged or causing a problem is very minimal, but I don’t like to work that way. Other then that great work

Good video , big question I’ve always done ford motorcraft plugs but lately I’ve seen a lot of hype w the iridium ngk’s w/ a .044 gap.
@TheYoungerSemiOldMan2 жыл бұрын
Thats a "you" decision. No one on a reputable channel will ever say anything outside of use of OEM parts. Youre on your own. Listen to the hype, as you called them, or follow factory engineers. Factory for a 2013 5.0 is .49-.53 but a 2011 is .44 - .49 so follow the manual for your vehicle. You can listen to others and it may be better but thats a "choose your own adventure" risk.

Use your brain like any other spark plug that you have put in since a kid be it a lawnmower, blower, weedwhacker, car, truck, dirt bike, motorcycle, buggy, etc. Have you never replaced a spark plug in anything in your life? If not, thats cool, but what have you don't your entire life as a male? Just go hand tight. Its an aluminum head with platinum threads on the plug. No torque value? No anti seize? No boot grease?
@THEDriverMod_2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure we stated the torque value. Anti sieze is NOT recommended as it affects the grounding of the plugs and is unnecessary on plugs with the special coating like these did. Never used boot grease on any car post MY 2000, from bmw to Honda to Ford and never had any issues from the lack of doing so.
@TheYoungerSemiOldMan2 жыл бұрын
That's all old-school hype. Anti-seize is meant for old plugs that aren't mdern. Most plugs today have a coating on the threads. Anti-seize will screw up your torque specs as well. You don't need it. Proceed as intended.
@cheizaguirre54942 жыл бұрын
@@TheYoungerSemiOldMan ur other comment u mention hand tight , which torq spec u recommend? Thanks
@TheYoungerSemiOldMan2 жыл бұрын
@@cheizaguirre5494 bro honestly, and I'm not pro, but all my motorcycles (done hundreds over the decades of riding) and auto, ive never had an issue. The pros and mfg recommend to be torque 133 lbs-in or 11 lb-ft for the EcoBoosts. Google to double check. I dont have a torque wrench nor a turbo personally. So for me, hand tight, has always worked well. Again, never had an issue. Just use common sense. Its an aluminum head and hard metal spark plug. Too tight and you'll bust the head threads. One thing I was taught as a kid "loosen with the wrench and finger turn it out. When going back in, GENTLY slowly screw it back in by fingers. Once in, then use wrench". This will prevent you from going in at a jacked up angle and stripping head threads. Once in and snug, I'll wrench it with one hand or very gently give it a nice little snug to make sure its in firm but not " tight " if that makes sense. Let me know if you have more questions.

How the hell are you supposed to get the spark plug to stay in the socket, without the rubber no crack thing coming out, or the socket staying on the plug? Highly annoying at best. I bet Ford techs have some special tools that allows this to be done? I wrapped the connection with tape and the socket still stayed in, so I had to remove the spark plug again to get the socket back out? Now the rubber inserts in the socket is trying to stay on the plug instead of coming out with the socket. About the only way I can see to do it right now is to drop the plug into the hole , take the rubber insert out of the socket and then somehow try to get the socket onto the plug down in the hole and get it threaded in straight. For some reason this was never a problem on my 1998 4.6.
@miguellott90388 ай бұрын
Wow that was a pain in the ass I finally had to enlarge the hole that goes over the in connection on the plug and now it stays in the socket and comes off of the spark plug
