How to change Spark Plugs on a Mitsubishi Montero

In this video I go through the process of replacing spark plugs in a gen 3 montero, specifically at 2003, 3.8 V6 model, but this will apply to several different models.

Your spark plug socket equivalent is a standard 5/8". I've done this procedure many, many times over the years, not much to them anymore. First time was a definingly a learning curve, having the FSM really helps. Keep up the great Montero content brother, I don't believe there are any others currently.💪

Big procrastinator here. I even bought the 4 large service manuals and I'm still dragging my feet to do the exhaust manifold gaskets. I bought the parts 6 months ago lol. Anyway thanks for making things look less complex.

Great video . I just finished doing mine, but it took me 24 hours because I sand and painted my valve covers and changed the gasket while I was in there. I like the idea of removing throttle body. I did not do that so I had to bleed my cooling system, plus I had some coolant leaked out.

I always do leads and coil packs at the same time as the plugs because of how much of a PITA it is to get the manifold off.

Hey man! We talked years ago when you asked about buying my gray 2ng gen SR in Colorado. (this was before you had your first Montero and now your an expert) I'm about to do this and VCGs on my 05 Limited. I got some annoying oil leaks towards the back on the motor cause oil to leak on the exhaust and smell terrible with every drive. Is there any tricks to do the VCGs once the manifold is off ? Or is everything pretty accessible? Also , I want to replace my rear cam seals as I think they are leaking as well. Would it be easier to do while the manifold is off or from the back/underneath the engine? Glad to see you've become a major player in the Montero community.

personally, i actually just run cheap stuff. my engine does not seem to mind, and my bearings looked new even after 240k miles. i run 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter and change it ever 3k

anything you recommend checking or replacing while in there or going a step further? ive heard people discuss the butterfly valves but im not sure if thats a big concern or not. 04 montero thank you!

Yeah definitely while the intake is off, check the butterfly valves in the intake for play and tighten/loctite the screws. Also valve cover gaskets if the spark plugs are oily (and if you're pulling the valve covers then pcv valve too) and potentially the heater/coolant hoses if you happen to be replacing the coolant anyway.

Question. Were the coolant lines connected to the throttle body new to the 2003 3.8 model?

i'm not sure.. idk if they are there on the 3.5, but i image so since it's pretty common
