I know the video is older, I have a dakota with the same engine the 5.2 I’m assuming everything is the same right?

Yes, it should be the same, just a little tighter to work on.

How did you get the clips open to allow you to get the wires out? I don't see that detail in the video. Thanks!
@bravekind Жыл бұрын
I found that if you push against the plastic just under the top of the clip, to the right or left, it slides out. To close it back, do the reverse.

How to change distributer cap and wires

Proper plug gap is 0.40. was watching your video to maybe learn something new. I did like blowing the spark plug tube out before pulling.

Do the plugs come pre gapped or do we need to gap them ourselves
@deuceliter Жыл бұрын
They should come pre gapped but it's still a good idea to check them.

How hard can you yank on those plug cables? Mine don't come off. I am planning to reuse them.
@deuceliter2 жыл бұрын
Should pull off with out breaking. Just grab around the boot when you pull, may take some effort but they should pop right off.
@paolomartini1502 жыл бұрын
@@deuceliter I grabbed them by the boot with hands and then pliers even.

I'm having the same problem. I bought a tool to help but it won't fit in the remaining stuck boot. I've put lubricating oil around it and will try to get a straighter tool.

Putting dielectric grease across spark plug boot opening helps with better conductivity and keeps boots from sticking on plugs.

so do u have to change the wires when u change the spark plugs as well or can u just do the plugs
@IG107052 жыл бұрын
Best to change the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor button all at once.

I second that, except I just swap the whole distributor now it is cost effective

No you don’t HAVE to change the wires when you change the plugs. Better to do em both tho.

Have you done any other work on this truck in particular? I have same truck and i want to start tuning it up.

Idle air control valve went out on it which made it not stay running unless my foot was on gas. Also front brake lines burst when towing my boat, luckily it happened after I launched the boat... outside of fixing those two things and the plug change that's it so far.

Changed the plugs on a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.2 V8, w/Automatic Trans... No one mentioned blowing dirt out of the plug tube's, hence it never entered my mind when changing the plugs... In the event Dirt got into the cylinder, what type of issues can occur, AND, How can it be fixed ??? Diagnostic shows cylinders 5 & 7 misfiring, hence I ran a simple Sparkplug firing test... They are good... Note: The Idle seams good at start up... Applying throttle causes sputtering... Engaging in gear increases sputtering and causes truck to jitter... Throttling up for speed increases sputtering and vehicle jittering emensely... Will that dirt cause this and what's the cure ??? Note: The jittering Feels similar to a slightly out of balance clothes washer at substantial speed... Suspension was checked and balanced tires were installed, hence not a factor... I'm concerned about the dirt dropping into the cylinder... Any thoughts or remedies ???

@@rickhuttono1 I didn't see the rest of your concerns. I don't think dirt would cause it to do that unless you know for a fact there was a lot of dirt in the holes. Did it shake before you changed the plugs? I had a similar issue with a Chevy I own. Ended up being the clutch was falling apart and causing the flywheel to shake when running. This definitely made it feel like I was in a washing machine lol
