Thanks for the tip on the burning. I found an old circ saw that my dad had, and gave it a few test cuts. Some smoke from the wood, as well as burn marks when I finally see the surface of the two cut pieces. I assumed to get a new blade before bringing it into full use but your information confirmed it that the blade should be replaced.

I inherited a vintage craftsman circular saw and needed to replace the blade. Dad never taught me how to do this swap. Imagine being a 40 year old girl and never having learned this. I was too embarrassed to ask. Vice grips or blocking the blade with a screw driver (my blade has holes in it) was my first thought. Then I over thought it. I assumed there had to the a "correct" way. I use my dremel all the time and there is a button to press to lock the tools rotation. I thought this tool had to have something similar. Well I gave up. Thank you for letting me know this self taught dumb girl is not so dumb. My initial thought was spot on! Thank you for the help! Carry on!

Just trying to replace my blade and when I’m losing up the bolt it does not loosen it bc turns but doesn’t loosen up. I tried to use my saw last night and it was sort of jumping and stuff and freezing up . I would back it up but let it run a moment and then it would cut a little bit and then fina lly I couldn’t keep it Goin straight And finally wouldn’t turn it all. I hope the boat didn’t strip out or something . I’ve had this for probably 20 years or better only use it here and there to make things. Anything you can add to help? C Hope you can answer quickly. My Black & Decker CS718-AE circular saw ( made in China) has a blade lock button for when removing/installing blades. No need to unduly pinch the blade to keep it still which I fear might compromise its integrity. The tool/ wrench that comes with it is too flimsy though so I just use a regular size 13 Stanley box. wrench to undo/do the bolt. The blade gets tight ( lock washers/flanges installed in the same old way) cuts fine and straight through a 2X4, but I wonder why it seems a wee bit noisier now than before when I first removed the blade to clean it? Thank you.

In case this helps anyone, I bought a left-handed Skilsaw and the blade goes in so that the writing is not visible. My guess is that the writing on the blades are made to show up on right-handed saws and they don't make different blades for left-handed saws. Thanks for posting! This was helpful.

Check the direction your blade rotates - the big bolt >unscrews< in same direction (could be RH or LH thread). When you retighten the big bolt be firm but don't go mad - the motor drive acts to tighten it so it will not come off in use. Also some high end saws have a "blade lock" lever (hold it in against a spring) so you don't have to immobilize the blade with a vise grip. Good video, Thank you.

Thanks for this vid. I purchased a circular saw and the directions actually didn’t say how to install the blade. Can you believe that!?
@garyknight89668 жыл бұрын
As Nicholas Hoffenpiper noted (a year ago), sometimes you cannot tighten the bolt even though the blade is stabilized (eg with your locking pliers): the bolt begins to grab the motor armature and turns it without further tightening down on the blade. Very frustrating! Nick's lucky solution was to keep tapping on the bolt head. Another aid may be to (a) pre-lubricate the bolt threads with eg. Fluid Film (better than WD-40) and (b) make the blade 'sticky' on its backside under the bolt head using eg a drop of Loctite on the blade surface (wait for it to get tacky before the installation).

I can't tighten my bolt! I hold blade still and motor turns while I turn bolt. On angle grinders, there's usually a button for locking motor, but not on my circular saw. Any suggestions?
@Justaz9 жыл бұрын
Hello, Nicholas Hoffenpiper. Look for a small hole in the saw blade. Put a screwdriver into the hole. (The hole is for this purpose) This should steady the blade while you tighten the bolt. Thanks for watching, and please visit our channel again.
@nicholas84799 жыл бұрын
I was finally able to tighten the bolt by tapping on the wrench with a hammer. The inertia of the motor kept the shaft still while the tapping quickly turned the bolt tight.

@jimisham27225 жыл бұрын
Rather than holding the blade with pliers or vice grips when undoing the bolt , it is much more expedient to block the teeth with a firm wood surface; like a sawhorse, 2X4 or other soft surface other than your hand. Also, a ratcheting socket wrench is much more convenient than a box/open end wrench. Experience teaches this. And, after you change your blade, check the tightness of your sole plate at 90 degrees, or whatever angle you're working at.

it all depends on the model and the brand your using most circular saws have a blade lock function nowadays but older models do not have that option so either you got to use a screwdriver in there to stop it from moving the blade vice grips work ok I found a needle nose version of vice grips works better I have an old Skil saw model 5150 10amp and it does not have a blade lock I also have a 5250 11amp no Blade lock on those two models but they're old-fashioned made in the usa if I'm not mistaken the 12amp version has it on skil saw brand and there worm Drive versions have it all your information helps

There's no blade lock on the other side? Makita models have a blade lock on them, so you don't have to fuss with the pliers or vice grips.
