to make sure filter cap is not crossthreaded is to turn it like you are removing it you will fill it drop in place & hand tighten then tighten to spec

Great oil drain placement. Right on the back so jacking the front will force the oil to the opening. Also love the filter and filter housing. Much better than my toyota tacoma. Once you remove that filter, it spews oil all down the engine bay.

Get the ECS tuning under engine and midmount skid plate. It will protect the undercarriage better.

Thanks for video - just curious why the used filter was crushed to the point the filter was zig zag . Perhaps it was not seated right and was compressed when it was installed, or it was too long and not correct one ? Never saw one zig zag like that . Very good video, thanks for the info .

Perhaps whoever did the previous chang e used a cheap after market filter; they tend to do that; or it wasnt seated properly.

Better do some research; I tried a Schwaben extractor and it took me 20min to remove a qt of oil and I did all of their recommendations; sent it back.

Careful with dealerships. Auburn Wa VW dealership put 7.5 quarts of oil in my car. It only needs 4.5

You wouldn't want to use a "torque" wrench for loosening bolts/nuts. A normal 1/2" and 3/8" ratchet wrench would be great to have with the accompanying socket sets. A Torque wrench is only supposed to be used to tighten a bolt/nut to specified torque that you set on the wrench before each use.

For the 2006 tdi its a 19mm socket for the oil pan screw.

It needs to meet the specs. Mobil 1 5w-30 ESP is the correct oil and sadly not sold at most autoparts stores or Walmart. Amazon sells it though.

I buy pentosin oil at autozone that is spec for the 507.00 and its cheaper than that castrol crap. Dealer wants $10 a quart, and the pentosin is $6 at autozone

Castrol edge ll 5W30 or any other brand that has the VW507.00 specifications. Wal-Mart carries online with free overnight shipping on the 5 quarts you need. I order six to be able to keep it topped as I burn one quart in 5000 miles

That's not how you change the filter. Guess on this it don't matter too much as it's belt driven, but on a chain driven 3.0tdi per se, doing that risks your chain skipping. These filters have a prong with an oring on the bottom. You have to install the filter in the housing first. Then fill the housing with oil through the center bore on the filter. only cars that need the housing prefilled have that bore on the filter.

It was also for the TDI. Castrol has since discontinued this oil and made something new. I Bought this oil with an oil change kit from ECS Tuning 7 years ago... the car didn't blow up.

I can go down to advance auto and take a pic right now. I had a guy show up for an oil change without any oil at my old job. His motor didn't blow up. Would you recommend to people driving around without oil?

Get Rid of that EGR system and intake swirlers. Get the Airbox out and replace it with Kerma TDI Cold Air intake. Serving will be much easier. Your fans will be running at min speed woth A/C running.

As of last year vw stated that their diesels should now use 0W-30 504/507 spec. Don't know why but im sure using the 5W-30 oil is fine.
