Just did my 2012 S4 oil change. Went with Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5w30 as I had extra from my Stage 2+ WRX. It meets all the specs required. I also added 300ml of Liqui Moly MOS2 Engine treatment and used a fluid extractor which sucked the pan dry, I put in 6.3 litres to register perfect on dipstick and MMI system. All good to go now at 50k:)

The best part of the oil change on the 3.0 is the top mounted filter. I change the filter one time before a change. The only engine I know of that you can do that on. Why not use a Mityvac pump to remove the oil from the "dipstick?" I can change the oil and filter in under 20 minutes that way.

Same thing here - I use a Mityvac extractor on my A4 (not S4). Just make sure the oil is hot for easy extraction. Takes 20 minutes if you factor in drinking one beer. Otherwise it's more like 10 minutes... :-) I also have a BMW 328i xdrive without a dipstick. So even if the oil filter is on top, I still have to go underneath the car. Real pain.

Loved the video but dislike the oil selection, Motul has a low heat resistance have tried it twice with bad results. First in a 7500 mile oil change interval had to refill with two more quarts but when using before and after Castrol and Pentosin didn't need to add a drop at the same OCI. Second time I used Motul 75w-140 in my PTU and it burned very fast it nearly blew my PTU thank God I noticed a strange noise and pulled over. After that I put in Redline 75w-140 and haven't had issues. So I wouldn't recommend that anyone should use Motul if you don't want to keep refilling and wasting money, sometimes is not your engine that's burning oil it might be the oil that your using.

Great video. Thank you. I'm looking at buying a 2015 Q7 Sline with the 3.0 TFSI engine. It only has 39,000 miles. Overall, the car is super clean but it seems like the internal engine parts I can see through the cap hole are way more reddish/varnished looking than I would expect. Although it runs great, the owner doesn't have service records. It may just be how these look. This is the only Audi I've ever checked out. They're not common where I live so I can't just stop in somewhere and have a look. I just don't want to buy a poorly-serviced vehicle. I'm sure you know what the internals should look like. Is reddish/varnished ok or a dead give away for poor oil maintenance? Every other (non audi) car I've ever looked in has clean (oily) metal parts visible through the hole.

Moti - I was asking myself the same questions before I started using my extractor, but I was not able to find data proving what you state. An Audi technician told me it has been studied by Audi and no issues were found (I did not see that study so I cannot really approve / disapprove). Personally I can vacuum the whole 4.6L in my 2.0T A4. Same quantity as draining. I do it when the oil is at operating temperature, so everything is well mixed and hot. And if the oil filter is doing its job properly, I don't see why it would be a problem. I'd be curious in seeing a real study with real data.

Fluid extractor is nice to have and do maybe every other oil change. Reason is because it does not extract all the dirt/buildup/shavings (if any). When you drain it from the bottom, you are ensuring the above is being drained out with the oil.

They drained the oil and put on a new washer and filled it with fresh oil for free. I hoped that was the end of it however today I found that it is leaking again. I took it back to the shop and they told me to bring it in tomorrow morning. He's confused and doesnt know why its leaking. He said he replaced the washer with a new one of the same size, material etc (I think he said it was Brass). Does anyone know why it's leaking? Has he stripped the bolt/sump or is there another reason? Cheers.

Where is it leaking from, front or back? Maybe check to see if the oil filter was inserted correctly, theres a possibility it could be leaking from the oil filter being installed incorrectly.

rcl300018 Thanks for your reply. It was leaking from the sump plug. We ended up installing a fibre washer and it stopped leaking.

You could damage the motor if you use too thin of an oil, like 20 weight, if it was intended to use 40 weight oil like my Audi S4 is. A thinner oil generally doesn't protect as well against metal on metal wear as a heavier oil, but can be necessary for various reasons. The number before the "w" just indicates the "winter" or cold viscosity before the oil is warmed up, relative to the oil weight (20, 30, or 40.) Too thick of an oil (if you used 90 weight gear oil for example,) would not splash around and penetrate enough to lubricate all the bearings and other surfaces that need oil. If it says "0w" before the oil weight, such as "0w40" that means it's the same weight when it's cold as when it's warmed up. It will be a much thinner oil in the jug at room temperature than 5w40 or 10w40. When warmed up they will be the same.

i want to buy an s4 instead of lease. im scared of dealership scamming me or trapping me into their maintenance service and over charging. are these cars reliable to buy? im scared to buy used btw. i have to learn learn how to take care of it on my own since the car alone is already going to break the bank. this is my dream car and i plan on using it for 8-10 years if i buy one. otherwise i will have to look at domestic options such as mustang or challenger, etc. im willing to find a long term reliable mechanic but im scared of sabotage which leads to further costs. anyone have advice?

What year are you considering? The B8-8.5 model years have one of the most reliable engines to date.

A4 is nice too but i like S4 a lot more. the engines are obviously different which means one may be a lot easier and cheaper to repair than the other

aidsimo it’s all personal preference. But I like the b8.5 the most out of the current options (as a best overall considering price maintenance and fun) I personally love the supercharger and would never get a later model because of that. The engines are supposedly very reliable. Realistically you are either going to be paying more for a new car with no problems in the beginning, or preventive maintenance and a couple repairs on a used car. However the design of the 8.5 imo is worth preserving. Good design is timeless and this car has and will age well.
@HuheJass
@HuheJass 4 жыл бұрын
aidsimo I would buy it if you can afford it, (another reason b8.5 is good choice, they are getting cheaper. Expect around 40k (20k for car and 20k potential maintenance) but it should be a nearly new car after that regardless of mileage)

That engines are working in much higher temperatures than usualy and they need really good quality oils. Only PAO\Ester based oils have high enought high temperature resistance. HC-Synthese mineral oils like that Motul are coking and leave that orange\brown sludge inside of engine and a lot of carbon deposits in hottest engine places like piston rings. Thats not a good idea to use poor quality oil like this for this type of engines. That cars requires low SAPS oils as well. That MOTUL is a Full SAPS oil and kills the catalyst faster. I have no idea how it's possible that someone who have no idea about engines and oils can give advices.

Really, my 2013 s4 needs 6.8l, I'm in Australia, maybe our cars have a deeper sump. Or maybe if you swap over the oil filter that holds 300 mil so I'm guessing thats were our differences varie.

Oil is sold by the quart in the USA. The oil capacity is 6.8 liters, probably without filter if it's like most factory specs. So yes, around 7 liters. Quit whining. I'm guessing you'll never do your own oil change anyhow.

@@tcolondovich2996 I own an Audi with the 3.0L supercharged (CAJA) engine and have done over a dozen oil/filter changes with most scrupulous care. The engine oil capacity is from the owner's manual and always confirmed by the factory fitted dipstick.

Probably because Audi specs say to use 5w40. Maybe you should follow directions. Using too thin of an oil provides less protection for your motor.
