Great vid - I'd add run engine til hot and check for sump plug and filter leaks. Then recheck level after 30 minutes on flat area and top up if necessary.

Very helpful video. The screw your missing is an 8mm not a 10 as mentioned and i do the same with the oil filter housing i just tighten it till nice and snug cause they crack easily. As for the drain plug i usually tighten it to 15lbs never more. Sometimes its leaks slightly if the brass seal is put on upside down. If you look closely one side is smoother than the other. Not sure if thats correct but thats what ive noticed from experience.

@peterhorgan58152 жыл бұрын
Never mind; I undid the oil filter canister and noted that the O ring was NOT seated in the proper groove ( not the very bottom ) BTW didn't lose any oil on removal; will be rechecking for leaks and topping off

Is it really necessary to change oil every 2k miles?? Id be changing mine every few weeks 🤣
@aleks54056 ай бұрын
Minis of that era are notorious for suggesting something silly like every 15k miles in user manual. Thus people who still have functioning old minis tend to go a bit overboard on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Does anyone know how similar this would be with an N18?
@jb67890111 ай бұрын
Same procedure (N14 and N18). Same oil volume (incl filter housing) of 4.2 Liters. Both require 5W30 full synthetic. 5W40 full syn may also be used in warmer climates. Castrol is a recommended brand...or any good equivalent. I try not to mix oil BRANDS between changes, unless in a pinch. Try to change (oil and oil filter) every 5000 miles (8000 KM) if you want the timing chain/guides and turbo to last longer. Try to keep the dipstick level between mid point and full at all times, if you want the timing chain/guides to last. Monitor dipstick level at least every other full refill of the gas tank (or every ~700 miles). Old dirty oil will gunk up the engine over time...especially the oil feed line to the turbo. Hence, routine changes at 5000 miles will extend turbo life significantly.
