Honestly - yes. I’ve just done the infamous “Oil Cooler” leak repair.. so an oil change makes sense. But, I stayed around for the obvious other reason as bad as that may seem 🤦🏻♂️🤣 .. 💁🏻 thanks.. namaste 🙏

great video and well documented. something i do is once your oil pan drain plug is out, and oil filter is out (with the filler cap removed) is pour some new oil (if you have plenty) until it runs out of the oil sump pan drain port clear. this basically flushes out the oil gallery's and areas the oil runs through, making sure its respectively cleaned out, and you will have super clean dip stick and oil in your engine. make sure you torque the drain plug and filter cap to the manufactures specs with a torque wrench. and if your ever at a BMW / Mini dealer, or order online get a bag or about 10 sump plug copper crush washers so it will do you for a long time. you can also buy a case / pack of 4 filters (official ones) i think i got online somewhere when i had my 2007 Cooper S. love that drain pan and idea of custom made wooden ramps. great idea. As you drive all weather conditions and in the snow etc, have you considered getting a Alloy rally type sump guard? it can save destroying your engine if you hit a block of hard snow / ice / log etc loving your channel and Mini videos, not many people like yourself that can do their own mechanical work on their own car.

Thank you! The problem with flushing out oil from a Mini is that unfortunately the oil pan is designed really stupidly where about 200-300ml is left sitting in the oil pan in a ditch as the drain plug is not at the lowest point of the oil pan... A terrible design flaw. Flushing it out as you suggest would take a lot of oil and I don't feel comfortable "wasting" fresh oil. But I understand your suggestion! Great idea to stock up on copper washers and filters, thanks! I haven't really considered a guard for the underside of my Mini because I'd say I drive quite carefully in winter. A rallye style guard is I think really only necessary when you are in a rallye situation, but if I had the extra money I would! There are other changes I'd like to make first. It also depends on your country, Austria's streets are incredibly well kept and cleared hourly during winter! I really appreciate your thoughts and comments, this is why I started this channel :)

Nice video, the oil filter is a pain and the oil filter housing leaks over time too - I just change the oil filter every two years to avoid having to mess around with it frequently.

Don’t forget, the Castrol Edge oils have new packaging. Rectangular now but the oil stays the same. It doesn’t say Titanium anymore but it is still in it.

I bought an r53. Previous owner screwed the oil filter tight! I’m unable to unscrew it even with a breaker bar!!! Any suggestions??

Is it normal for my R56 to consume oil over time? Like I have to top up my engine oil after 10k kilometers.
@KiaraShifts6 ай бұрын
Pretty much normal yes! I check my oil level monthly. As long as you don't see blue smoke coming from your exhaust it's likely not too bad. I'd recommend doing an oil and filter change at least every 15k km anyways.

@@KiaraShiftsMuch to late in the Mini World..latest do it every 10000..i do it every 5000..
@KiaraShifts6 ай бұрын
@@Outsourcer 15k is Mini's recommendation. It is also why I wrote "at least". But I agree, I do it every year which is usually every 8k km.

I service the Mini yearly, so about every 10k km!

In the UK, the oil change interval is 10,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. I do mine every year, after about 3,000 miles (!), as it's easy to do, although the coolant reservoir is awkward.

I just bought a F56 Mini Cooper S and love it. I ordered the Mini Cooper brand oil and filter kit online.
