The first white cane I ever purchased I tried changing the tip and by accident let go of the cord cuz it's not pull it out far enough. It was a nightmare trying to get it back through. Thought I had wasted my money. However, I got it out and I got my tip on the cane. in the process of finally getting the cord back out of the cane tube I realized there is a cord stopper attached. You just have to pull the cord out far enough. This was on an ambutek cane. Best canes ever Also Sam, you forgot to mention that there are other types of tips like screw-on tips on the ambient slim line canes which are absolutely awesome. Great video lots of helpful information.

@@theblindlife Sam, I am just curious if you got my comment from your last no job cane video? Only reason I ask is because the cane that I won my buddy who is taller than me fit the cane perfectly. He was the whole reason I entered for the drawing because his had broke on him that same week you uploaded the video for the giveaway. Anyway, he traveled from New Hampshire all the way to Mississippi and Texas and all the way back to New Hampshire with that Kane. He's a very tall big guy and he jabs himself all the time and the cane was able to take the abuse he put towards it. We put a roller ball ambient tip on it and he was able to feel all the terrain and everything. He came back bragging at our peer support group and had to show everybody He absolutely loved it. Just thought you would like to know this information. he was forever grateful and I am also so thank you very much for allowing me the opportunity to win that. I paid it forward and it worked out just perfectly. Let John know someone loved his cane so much.

@Vincent Grasso My Visually Impaired Life how did you get the cord back through? Having this issue now with my husband’s first cane.
@myvisuallyimpairedlife56744 жыл бұрын
I will gladly help you out. So what I did was I took a metal coat hanger preferably the one with the cardboard tube and straightened it out as best I could. I put the metal hanger in the tube until I felt it catch the string within the cane. I then slowly pushed it through to the other end and when I felt it come out just a little I grabbed it with my fingers and pulled it tight until the plastic piece came out. The plastic piece I'm talking about is the stopper by the way. Then I attempted to open the cane fully tight. Then I attached the tip I pulled as tight as I could then carefully placed the plastic tab back in the tube and the tip was then mounted and all was okay again. It was hard didn't take a minute took me awhile to try but at the end of the day was accomplished. Do not give up on this vendetta. Good luck and I hope all goes well. If I had to do it again I think I would try to find something a little bit thicker than the hanger metal. Something thin enough where it could fit through the tube but thick enough where it could grasp the thread the string. The hanger kept trying to poke through the thread at times. But do everything slowly and it should not affect the string at all.

I prefer the hook style tip because it is much more secure and it will not slip off. Last year I lost a $20.00 slip on tip in the snow and this summer I lost another one in the grass. The slip on tips come off easily and the screw on tips come unscrewed. The hook style tip is more secure and by using Sam's procedure they are very easy to change. Thanks again SAM.

Aunt the ambutech Canes with a hook tip supposed to have a Little piece of plastic to catch the cord so you don't have to use a pencil or pen? I think it was called a cord lock, at least on one of the videos on KZbin showed.

How do you retrieve the elastic from the body of the cane?
@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
You’ll have to pull off the sections until you find the end, and then thread it back through those sections.

The tip on my telescopic cane is a screw on type. It is so easy to change and I wonder why this type of tip attachment is not the standard? I would have a lot of trouble with the hook style like you show here. However, a way to make this easy to use would be a crimp in the cane and a knot in the cord that only allows the cord to snap back to the knot. Then a small pair of needle nose pliers would save the day instead of having to rethread the section. This is just my opinion, everyone has their own ideas and tricks. Still, this was a great demo, Sam. Keep up the awesome work.

I wish I had seen this video 6 years ago. If I had a video of my first tip changing experience, it would be a comedy. My finger was an innocent victim and suffered horribly. 🤣🤣🤣😱

Hey Sam! I have a question about slip on cane tips. I've recently ordered a new white cane from Ambutech, as well as a new marshmallow roller tip also from Ambutech, although thre pieces arrived separately. The instructional leaflet gives advice for hook tips, which I don't have, and only a brief sentence on slip on tips, so I'm thoroughly confused. At the end of the cane, there is a black ring of plastic that the elastic is tied onto, so I don't see how the slip on cane tip is supposed to fit over this. Ambutech claims that the cane tip I bought will work with this cane. Please help!

What is the thickness and tension of the elastic cord? Like if no stretch would be 0% and full stretch would be 100%. I'm trying to prepare for when my blind wife invariably breaks the elastic cord. She's only used telescoping carbon fiber canes since I've known her, but is now switching back to aluminum folding canes. She's used them in school, but would often break the elastic cord and they'd just get her a new one, but that'd get pricey now that the cost is on us.

I found an easy solution to retrieve the cord if it retracts into the cane. Ambutech sells a product called a Cord Fisher. The Cord Fisher is a 16 inch rod with a hook on one end that resembles a crochet hook. To retrieve the cord, insert the Cord Fisher’s hook into the shaft of the cane on the end where the tip resides. Move the Cord Fisher around until the hook snags on the rope’s loop. Pull the cord out of the cane using the Cord Fisher. There will be tension on the rope. When the loop comes out of the cane, put a pencil or pen through the loop to secure it. Hook the tip onto the rope and remove the pencil or pen while continuing to hold the tip. Release the tip after it is seated properly into the shaft of the cane.

And here I was trying to think of how to use a wire hanger to do basically the same thing. Only $3.31 for the fisher, not bad!!

Does anyone know how to tie the end of the cane, just before the cane tip hooks on? I have to change the elastic in my cane, and I'm having ahard time trying to get the string taught enough to keep the joints in place, but the knots came undone. A tutorial on how to fix the white cane will be nice

If I had a slip on tip on my cane originally, can I change to a hook on? I have an ambutech folding cane.
@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how far down the inner cord goes. Sometimes canes that have a slip on tips will actually have a small At the end of the cane which is actually a hook tip. It’s basically a hook with no tip on the end, just a small blunt That closes up the end of the cane so the slip on tip can go over it. You may have one of these on your cane.
@Motherofdragons47803 жыл бұрын
@@theblindlife yes mine does have one of those. Do you pull the little cap off or does it twist off?

For those of us without a clamp and the elastic goes into the cane , how ami to get the cord out the bottom section. I have been trying to fix this for a month now.
@theblindlife2 жыл бұрын
You need to hold on to the last section that the cord is sticking out of. Stretch the cord out as far as it will go and pinch the end so that it doesn’t go back into that last section. Then thread the extra cord into the next section. Repeat the process until all the sections are back on the cane and the cord is sticking out the bottom. Keep in mind though that if you let go, the cord is going to pop back into the cane and you’ll be back to square one.

How do you use sumo with no band?
@Wrymenigma5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I downloaded the app based on what Sam said @Blindlife but the app won't work at all with any functions (including Place Finder) without first pairing a Sunu band (notice different spelling then you had). Thanks for the video Sam. I am sure Sunu is a good company, and wanted to support you, by using their app, and giving it a good review, but fell through due to requirement of having to have a sunu band tied to a login with sunu band. I'll be happy to keep them in mind for assistant technologies though.
@theblindlife4 жыл бұрын
I’ve added a link in the description to the correct app. The one you need to download is the beta version. That’s the one you can use without the band.
