Thanks for the video! I'm currently at Marina Chiapas, Mexico, and this is a job I've been putting off for a while. I'm having to work on the Tohatsu outboard motor on the back of my sailboat hanging of some dingy davits. It's about 35 degrees, so it's going to be a sweaty one. We're heading off to El Salvador, and I need a reliable tender to get to shore. You're video has lightened my load! Thanks again.

When putting the pin back in dose it need to be in neutral, for the hole to line up

Ideally neutral would be the best due to access when it’s in drive. But if you do it in gear then it shouldn’t really matter as long as it goes back together in the same way. That way the linkages are still aligned.

Hi I have the same outboard and were you split the bottom half just above are thin electrical wires just wondering if you know what they do

As there’s no electrical devices down there, the most likely thing is that they are part of the earth continuity bonding to ensure all parts of the engine are connected to the anode/s

Is it normal for a small amount of water to come out of the plug where u connect the shifting rod together?

Not normally, sounds like the water pump pick up tube might not be sealing very well. If you have no water coming out the telltail then I would suspect the tube isn’t connected to the water pump with what’s you’ve said. But more likely the grommet the tube goes into could be perished. In the other hand if you are running the engine in a tank then that case void would be full of water anyway and it’s just draining out.

I have a 9.8 that's not pumping water/pissing, they look exactly a like . I'm wondering is it the same steps to do that repair.

It’ll be very similar if it’s a 2 stroke, the shift linkage should be held on with a double pin too, only 1 needs removing. After that it’s the same removal procedure as any other outboard. If you have zero water coming out best thing to do before tearing down is just check the water tell tail pipe isn’t blocked and that the engine is deep enough in the water to allow the pump to take suction
