Tip. Seat the new seal first for the sump filter. Don't push it in with the filter. Many DIYs have cracked the filter and/or seated the seal on an angle. You can use a socket that is the same circumference as the seal. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you! Great video. I just bought a 2003 Ram 4x4 as a project and for towing a boat. It has 194k miles so I am servicing everything that has liquid. Because I am picky, I am going to redo the transmission, rear diff and engine with fresh fluids for a second time after about a month.

This was helpful to watch before hand. Only thing different is the pump filter seal. Drive that into the pump body first, then install the filter. It's easier that way and the manual calls for it to be done that way. Also torque spec on the pan bolts is 105 in-lbs.

Damn nice work. I thought I would know how to do this after working on cars for 50 years, but I would likely have overtightened the gasket. Plus could have missed and left the filter seal up in there. Kudos for an excellent video.

That filter seal is an issue with every transmission sump filter I have done on either GM or Dodge. At least with the Dodge it isn't way up inside the opening like it was with my 1997 GMC Safari van.

Great video, most appreciated. I am thinking based on filters from Mopar, seat for paper filter needs to be placed up and in valve body, & due to plastic threads on spin on filter, 3/4 turn more once filter makes contact with valve body. I am not trying to spout off, just what Mopar filters indicate. Again thank you very much. Definately will subscribe! You know your stuff! 😊

@dodge33445 Жыл бұрын
Just a tip to people that may have a harder time getting the gasket to hold in place.... a light coat of Vaseline on the actual trans pan along the edges where the bolts go....Then sticking the gasket onto the Vaseline... will allow the gasket to stay in place as you put it up. I know some kits have gaskets that dont allow the bolts to stay in place. So this truly helps. IT is also 100% SAFE, and is even noted in my service manual for my BMW to be used for transmission gasket, and holding it into place before bolting it back up. They also use Vaseline in transmission assembly to lubricate sensitive parts.

Nice instructional video. AAMCO transmissions swore up and down that my 2008 Ram only had one transmission fluid filter although I went out and bought the exact same kit that you did which has both the pan filter and the internal transmission filter with gasket. I’ll probably end up doing it myself although it can be messy.

The silicon gasket maker is what this came with from the factory. :-( I don't understand Chrysler's seemingly defaulting to this from factory, especially for the transmission pan. I don't even like it for differential covers, much less something with lots of small valves in it. Thanks for an excellent video. As others have said, drive the sealing ring in first, then mount the sump.

Great video, should put filter ring on by itself first to seat well. Plus it’s recommended by factory 👍. Also term “Ping” comes from metal working called “peaning” But has been mispronounced over time to pinging.
@thomasbriansavingmoney5 жыл бұрын
great infoo matty . thanks !
@matty2x3025 жыл бұрын
thomas brian : Only reason I know the terminology of peening is because Airframe Structures/Sheet Metal is my trade. Now a question for you & your trade. I did my 05 Ram trans flush & filter this past Saturday. It turned out to be a mess. I ended up drilling two severely rounded pan screw heads off then extracted threads from aluminum body with 1/8” easy out ( They are M6x1.00 thread pan head screws if anyone needs to know ? ) Next whoever serviced it before ( I’m 2nd owner ) must have had stock in black Permatex , say no more right ??!!!!! Finally with screws holding gasket on to pan I can’t get pan back on, everything in Duralast kit # TF349 for my 05 Ram 3.7L , 2WD fits except the circulation filter tab is over a 1/2” longer then the one that came off, so I call Auto Zone & they confirm kit # & even measure tab and its same length as my kit. So I marked it, stuck a paper towel in hole to keep out chips/dust and used cut off wheel, file to smooth, works like a champ. But what a day that was, and some people wonder why shop labor is expensive. Why is that kit filter or my pan like that ????

Check for codes. I have an 07 1500 Hemi 4x4 that just started doing this also, and I got a P0750 (Trans Solenoid "A" malfunction) code thrown (WITHOUT a check engine light). The trans goes in to "limp mode" when this happens, and "D" keeps it in 4th gear only. If you shift to "1", you should be able to start from a dead stop easier. With that said, here's my dilemma. When I cleared the code, the issue cleared also!! BUT... It comes back after traveling at highway speeds for awhile. (No, around town driving does not repeat) I have felt a hard down-shift when coming to the first stop after exiting the highway, and the limp mode has returned. Even more bizarre... I can shut off the truck, come back 5 minutes later, start the damn thing and the issue is gone!! I REALLY despise intermittent failures!! I'm here because my local Dodge "Service" guy said a trans fluid change will fix this... for a mere $285.95. I'm skeptical... While I have thought fluid temp/breakdown may be applicable, the fluid looks/feels good on the dipstick. Anyone have any more knowledge?... Or black magic to rid this demon from my trans on Halloween? Hahaha... Thanks.
