I’ve been doing odd jobs lately myself. Oil, brakes. Control arms tie rod ends. Starters aultenators my car is exact same as yours aswell 🤣👌 exact!!!! Thankx for the video

Watching this because I just did an oil change but lost my transmission. Yes, I drained the AT fluid not the oil - then dumped an extra 4.5 quarts of oil into the engine. What a tool.

I appreciate this video- the only thing is it would be very helpful if you addressed probably the hardest parts. namely different ways of getting the pan off the transmission with an OEM synthetic sealant, and actually reaching the transmission dipstick. For my 2012 Mazda 3 i, I need to take out the intake to access the dipstick, and I needed to really get into the gasket with a pry bar into the corner and rubber mallet to finally lose the pan. I hope that helps anyone else with the same problem. If you have the materials, You can manage to pour the ATF via a long tube attached to a funnel! I did this later and it was so much more convenient than taking the entire air-intake out. if you do this you'll need to access the dipstick from underneath the car, unfortunately. Great video, though! Thank you! Edit* My pan ended up leaking ATF since I only used the pre-cut rubber gasket that came with the replacement filter since the Autozone worker said it was enough. DO NOT ONLY USE THE CUTOUT. Follow the video instructions and apply gasket maker either on both sides of the cut-out or directly on the pan w/o the rubber cut-out (like I ended up doing). Just thought I'd try to come back here and help anyone out like I would have wanted!

RTV silicone should go on the OUTER side of the holes. When it gets compressed during installation, you do NOT want it oozing into the transmission where it can flake off and clog passages. You really only need a thin film to hold the gasket in place...don't overdo it.
@bobsoft
@bobsoft 4 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. RTV black should be used and go on the inside to prevent fluid going into the bolt holes. No gasket is needed. Torque the pan bolts to 89 inch LBS and then let it sit for at least an hour before adding fluid. Use Ford/Mazda Mercon V , not aftermarket fluids. Here is a professional mechanic showing how its done: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omSZhJ2Zd5V5q7M

I've never been a "car guy", but now that I'm looking for a new vehicle I've just fallen in love with the Mazda 3's. I was afraid that being 6'5" would make the car undriveable for me (comfortably), but I actually fit great after lowering the seat... feels a lot like my 02 Cavalier. I've looked at several models and test drove a 2012. Only thing that concerned me was it seemed to delay shifting from 1st to 2nd (auto transmission). Could be something simple (like old oil), or something more complicated. The car should still have quite a bit of life left in it (100k miles on it now) and I'm hoping the transmission can be squared away so I can bring it home, lol. Thanks for the upload... I'd be 100% confident performing this maintenance on my vehicle in the future.

I ended up buying an 08 Accord instead. I really liked the Mazda 3's but something about them was making me car sick. The floaty transmission would be an easy area to blame, but I actually think it was the angle of the windshield. The Accord doesn't shift as tight as my old Cavalier either, but it doesn't make me car sick. Either way... happy with my purchase, and hopefully you don't have any issues with the transmission in your Mazda.

Its Nov 2020 now - I just want to add some tips. 1) you can drain up to 5 quarts if you disconnect any one of the 2 ATF lines just in front of the transmission and use a small hand vacuum pump to suck the old ATF out. The ATF lines are in a small cylindrical looking heat exchanger. Be careful because it is also connected to 2 bigger hoses (for coolant). Make sure you remove the smaller hoses (not the big one). 2) Use Idemitsu brand ATF M5 oil. My car is 2012 Mazda 3 (GT 2.5)

I love it! I feel better now at least 3 of you guys on here had similar colored fluids and similar magnet grime! If you guys are not aware Mazda M V (5) transmission fluid is colored more like motor oil then traditional automatic trans fluids in PINK? I ONLY use the silicone on the metal steel stamped pan for future services! I learned that 24 years ago. The gasket is tough enough to use over again 4 times within 12 months that is if you are to change fluid and filter 4 times a year like me?

Really nice job. Good explanation without a lot of excess info. I am spending the extra money on the Mazda spec fluid. Personal experience with Honda and Mazda = they are picky about their automatic transmission and their power steering fluids. You can save some money on engine oils (provided they are the correct viscosity), but if you try to substitute ATF or power steering fluid they start acting up. Lessons learned, and now I jus suck it up and buy the OEM for those systems.

You are supposed to use ATF M5 on 2009-2013 mazda3, if anyone is reading make sure it says m5 on the bottle it isn't mecron or any mecron variant. I think only mazda sells m5 so just buy the original fluid or you will damage your transmission or best case it won't work as good as it could have. Also universal stuff shouldn't in theory damage your transmission either like the one in the video.

@@Rtario 😄you really trust companies and their minimum wage workers too much that is how people get their cars destroyed all the time but in your situation I checked that fluid and apparently it is just a universal fluid that also works for mazda m5 so shouldn't cause damage at least which is good news. Valvoline is also pretty high quality oil brand so I am sure that fluid is pretty good as well.

We have a lot of spare part companies here in my country and the dealership for Mazda cars, but they don't seem to know exactly what transmission fluid I can use. I don't want to take a risk. Thanks again for your help.

Maxlife work good, BUT the COF is not correct. I used maxlife for about 50k. It worked nice, But it didn't have the exact firmness of shifting and usually as I was coming to a stop light and the light would change just b4 I stopped, there was this slight hesitation as it would shift down. I would find myself hesitating a second b4 I hit the gas, always hoping the person behind me didn't hit me. I purchase IDEMITSU Type M (made specifically for my mazda 5 (m5, mv and m3 trans). Now mazda shifts PERFECTLY, it now has solid shifts and always downs shift Correctly when I have to slow down for stop lights or anything. MAXLIFE is probably ok and I use to swear by it, but the more research I did, I learned the the mazda trans needs the exact formulated fluid. The friction modifiers in the Maxlife IS NOT completely correct. It will work and may or may not harm the trans, but I know from experience that the trans works better and just feels more solid with the IDEMITSU Type M, which is the manufacture for Asian auto companies. I argued a long time with a guy over this and He turned out to be correct. Do yourself a favor and get the Correct Fluid. You will be happy! IDEMITSU TYPE M is the best or one of the best. I first serviced my trans @53k, dropped pan (very dirty inside), installed new strainer, then did several drain n refills within the next week or two. Did more drain n refills about 25-30k later, just did it again a few weeks ago to flush out the Maxlife ATF and She is PERFECTO Now! With the maxlife the shifts were almost very smooth n almost seemless , but that was b/c the Friction modifiers are NOT exactly as Mazda intended. She just plan works better with the IDEMITSU Type M factory fluid. End of story n no more Maxlife or any other brand for that matter..

Good morning Nae. Well yes it about 7.8 liters on manual. But u wont be able to drain everything out. It's impossible to do that. You would have remove everything on the transmission. So I only replace back what it needed. The only way to get the whole thing out and doing at a location in Jiffy Lube. They have a machine that flushes everything out and replace the new tranny fluid in. I hope this answer your question.

Hello febri, Usually it would be what came out of the transmission. I would measure it with other empty bottles so you'll know exactly how much to put back.. I would buy around 5 bottles of new transmissions fluid. Start with 3 in it slowly and then u can use the those to measure it. And you go from there. Remember let it warm up and then measure it and drive around close by and stop and measure it again. And just refill what it needs. And then check the next day also to make sure if it needs more. I thought the Mazda 3 transmission takes atf-mv type 5 fluid? The fluid you used is mercon LV, which is a totally different fluid than what the manual calls for. I realize that Google and even Auto zone or O'Reilly's will tell you that Mercon LV can be used, but if you look at the differences I think that it would be safer to use atf mv type 5 or a universal fluid that can safely be used as a substitute.

@iandobbs8663
@iandobbs8663 4 жыл бұрын
"Lifetime" basically means the manufactures warranty period. i. e 100,000 km. They only care about it lasting that long. The manufacturer isn't going to waste money servicing the trans so it can last 200,000km or more. If you leave it alone it will last at least 100,000km. But if you service it and change the fluid and filter you will get 200,000+ out of it.
