Very nice and helpful video. I have a Mazda 3 2010. (bought it used), It has 70K kilometers on the clock. (Canada, so metric rules.) Anyway, it looks like there's some dirt in the reservoir. I've done my best to remove it using paper towel and cleaning it up as best I can from where I can reach the dirt. The PS is fine no issues so far, but I thnk I'll wait for a warm day to replace the fluid. It's -12 C with the wind chill this morning here in Toronto. Your video is very helpful for this issue. Thanks again!

Thank you sir for your excellent video. You saved my son and me about $80.00 from the oil change service company. We also found that they did not replace the plastic guard on correctly and saved ourselves more headache. The wheel liner had to be completely removed, but this was quite easy. The steering fluid was brown and cloudy.

@atxjax17 жыл бұрын
This is the way I did it. 1. Raise the car and put it on jackstands, 2.empty out your resevoir, 3 disconnect the return line as this gentleman did. Then connect a clear tubing hose to the return line and run it into a container. 4. Fill the reservoir 5. Turn on car and have a helper keep pouring some Dexron III into the resevoir 6. Fluid will run through the clear hose. Keep on running car and moving steering side to side until fluid coming out of return line is clear and the new fluid being poured in.

I Sounds great to get every bit of old oil out, like a trans flush, however it appears in practice this method, as with a trans fluid change, is more accurate to reduce instances of overfill

Will the new fluid not come out aswell from the disconnected hose? How would you know when the new fluid reaches the disconnected hose? Plugging it off with your finger perhaps and let the new fluid reach the bottom slowly while somebody else fills the reservoir? Would be good this method to use some of the fluid to flush out some left impurities inside the reservoir or pump itself I think.....

I have 3 Mazda5's with 200,000 miles on them and I don't think the power steering has ever been changed. One of them occasionally has issues with the power steering drawing too much amperage; I don't know if it's due to fluid that has like 1 million km on it, but it wouldn't hurt to change the fluid at the same time you change your transmission atf.

It should work, Mazda's call for ATF for the power steering fluid, which is Mazda M-V for me, but which isn't very common. Any multi vehicle ATF should be fine as power steering doesn't have the same requirements as an automatic transmission.

great tutorial, found it very helpful. but, bruh, pull the wheel off!
@pingpong96567 ай бұрын
I would do three things different. 1) Remove wheel to make access easier. 2) Raise both front tires of the ground to make pumping fluid easier with steering wheel. 3) Block ONLY the flex return tube going up to reservoir, so I can fill reservoir back up with fresh fluid, and then pump it through by moving steering left/right. This will flush all the old fluid out if the metal return line and avoid getting lots of air in system. Once you start seeing fresh fluid coming out, unblock flex hose and put it back on metal return line quickly.
