I did this on my Seat Leon with the VW 2.0 engine and I just made sure the filter housing was fairly full when I screwed the top back on. The engine coughed a tiny bit when I started it but that was all.

Hi, you say to every 10k miles drain water from the filter housing. How do you do this. I know water can form in diesel tank and service station tank but are you saying that it collects in the filter area and can be siphoned off (as in fuel floats and water will be under fuel). Would this not be cycled through the engine regardless. Finally is there a way to check if there is water in the system. An lastly as I am new the diesels any tips for avoiding water in gas (is it down to a good service station that gets heavy traffic as my friends tell me).
