How to change your differential fluid Toyota Tundra

In this video I show how to change your differential or rear end fluid on a Toyota Tundra, while this is performed on a Toyota the process is the same for all rear wheel drive cars and trucks other then diff size bolts or thickness of fluid. You method of filling is faster than using a pump. I would be sure to replace each plug with a crush washer before reinstalling

Sadly the fill plugs get seized in a lot of old diffs, at our shop we use a simple logic of breaking the fill plug loose first if it won’t come loose we turn down the service. I would try a impact or a breaker bar if neither works there really isn’t much else you can do

My fill plug is starting to round out but I can't find a suitable part number to replace it. Anyone out there know of a good part number?

Local auto part store should be able to order one we have ordered them here at the shop I work at several times.

Yes but you could get away with using 75w 90

if you have a tundra with 160k miles and the differential fluid has never been changed. Should you change it?

Yes, change it. No fluid is lifetime and that’s including the infamous toyota “lifetime transmission fluid”.

Deff diff fluid will degrade over time and gain more grit from worn gears. It’s always good to change it no matter how long it’s been. The way diff gears mesh is different then transmissions new fluid should not cause any new slippage like a neglected trans would.
