Just purchased a 2020 RAV4 XLE and traded in my 2011 Dodge Caliber because I've been watching a lot of mechanical videos (yours included) on how to repair things. Well the Caliber would get fixed and something else would fail. Went with Toyota because so many people claim they are reliable and your videos prove it. Thank you sir!

My Canadian Toyota is 15 years old. It is as rust-free as this California truck because it has been taken to Krown Rustproofing every year. Rust is only 'inevitable' if people willfully neglect the essential maintenance that is part of living in a place where roads are heavily salted.

just unloosened all the fill and drain plugs in the rear and front diffs and transfer case in my 2004 Sequoia, wanted to do this before buying the oils and plugs. The hardest by far was the fill plug on the front diff, rusted up badly, the 10 mm hex socket would barely fit in, used rust dissolver and wire brush to clean and breaker bar on socket wrench and finally broke free!

@@somemedic Of course you should flush them , where do these old wives' tales come from?
@somemedic
@somemedic 4 жыл бұрын
Old chevy transmissions that needed to be rebuilt anyway would still keep going if you didnt flush them and get the suspended material out of the fluid. Had they been flushed at 50k instead of pushed well past their limits they probably would have seen well over 300k instead of being R and R'd at 120k. But that's chevy. These aisin sealed units still need a flush before 100k especially if you tow. Replace the filter, use the Toyota fluid and keep on going for another 100k. Otherwise you could be looking at a rebuild at 150-175k

I ask because one day I notice that the diff fluid came out the vent hose I guess the little check was suck and create pressure and came out ,I replaced the little vent checks I haven’t add fluid yet but notice after that when I used the 4wd it ingaged but when I took it out of 4wd the light blinks even though it did come out of 4wd drive

Make sure to pound in that hex! I live in the rust world and I got both my plugs out. At first it just went in a bit, if I torqued, I would have been in trouble! My lexus GS has a 10mm hex in the back and a standard hex bolt plug in the front I ordered all new crushwashers.

I love the methodical approach for a “basic” service, especially on a Tundra, since I have a 2017 TRD. I believe you consulted the manual for that earlier model, however, in mine, it requires a very unique TOYOTA 75w85 GL5 and the typical gear oil you are using would be incorrect and would degrade the differential. Please consult the owners manual for the proper lubricant specifications, and not a generic sticker. Trust me, the Toyota dealers are sloppy and ignorant as they used the wrong oil in mine!!! I became unglued at their ineptness.

@@1ronhall Just to be clear, I don't work for Amsoil or own any stock in the company. The Amsoil lubricants I use easily exceed all the specifications DETAILED in the owner's manual. My Toyota just passed 15 years of age. I have been using Amsoil's top spec oil since the second oil change. For 5 years I followed the oil change intervals specified by Toyota. Once the drivetrain warranty expired, I started using Amsoil according to its ACTUAL capability. That means for a decade I have used the Amsoil long life oil filter and done once-a-year oil changes. The engine remains in perfect condition as does the 5 speed manual transmission which has also been treated to Amsoil lubricant. Amsoil lubricants have been tested independently and exceed the quality of any other products on the market. Like I said, the best made cars deserve the best protection. BTW I have saved a small fortune by investing in top quality lubes and filters which drastically reduced trips to the garage over the last decade.
@1ronhall
@1ronhall 4 жыл бұрын
Right Lane Hog congratulations on using premium Lubricants ..... you have invested wisely ...... just be certain the lubes meet and are OEM approved for the application. There is too much gray zone in marketing and the user assumes the responsibility and onus. Happy Mile-ing!!
