Really good video! I'm a first time visitor to your channel and as someone with ADHD I have a small suggestion if you're interested. I always benefit a lot from time cards inserted into the video. Being able to see how many sections there are helps retain information and focus and also makes it less likely for me to skip around or skip the video!

it's crazy how the habit loop thing is how I changed the way I eat without even knowing it! a few years ago I discovered some food restrictions like lactose intolerance, and at first it was really hard to let go of the immediate reward of eating the foods I shouldn't because they were tasty, but the more I did it, I realized the outcome of feeling physically bad for hours after just wasn't worth it, and nowadays it's so much easier for me to say no to tasty food because I don't want to feel sick afterwards. So I already have a confirmation that this works, I just have to apply to other negative habits ✨

I love the cognitive restructuring point of imagining the best and worst case scenarios and letting go of the attachment to either of them. I used to have strong anxiety before my uni classes but I started to ask myself "What's the worst that could happen?" and imagine honestly the worst and really obscure scenarios that were really unlikely to happen - i.e. "imagine if I shat myself". If the class went better than whatever scenario I imagined, I was pretty happy. It took away a lot of the heaviness from my anxiety and made me realise that some shitty things (i.e. not having a friend in the class) wasn't the worst case scenario.

Personally I feel it’s been really helpful for me to challenge negative thoughts that I have. I’m sure it depends on the person if it works, and on how the thought is challenged, and on what the actual negative thought is, but as a person who has a bad habit of repressing any negativity the moment it occurs it has been extremely liberating to become aware of certain recurring negative thoughts and approach them with mindfulness, which has improved my mental health significantly. I think in some circumstances, the initial stage of awareness and challenging is necessary before it becomes a good idea to put them aside
@LittleKikuyu2 жыл бұрын
Also imagining the negative thoughts in a funny voice or spoken by a ridiculous cartoonish character, silly things like that, can really help 🙌 it just makes the inner voice way less convincing 😅
@muchelleb2 жыл бұрын
This is exactly my line of thinking recently! I think sometimes you DO need to challenge a thought to be able to more easily let it go. *Some* thoughts for me really benefit from being challenged - like those super deep-rooted negative beliefs with evidence journaling. Most other negative thoughts are easier to "let go of" right off the bat and don't need to be scrutinised, and by not taking them seriously I take away any power they have. I think it's always good to have a few different tools to use when it comes to thought management. Everyone is different and should ideally trial a variety of thought management tools with different types of difficult thoughts to see what works for them best 💛

How to change your life in one year: get severe depression. Everything got downhill and I lost most friends, about to lose my job, overthinking negative thoughts and worries, sleep got worse and many more specials that came with depression. And I’m already going to therapy/treatment. Which is about to end because of insurance and health system here. No matter how hard i try I obviously fail in getting better. So.. yes.. I guess life can easily be changed in one year. And things will probably get worse.. For everyone out there suffering from depression: it is so freaking hard and I hope you get out of this and feel better soon. And remember, that depression is not a lifestyle or choice. It’s an illness.

Hi Muchelle☀I have been watching your videos for years now! I rarely comment on videos but I want you to know that you are a HUGE inspiration to me 🌸💛 I struggle daily with OCD, SAD, GAD, and overall being EXTREMELY perfectionistic. Your content and your methods have helped me SO MUCH! You have helped me discover methods and ways to feel in control of my life. Also, I absolutely love the way you carry yourself and the way you present your methods with examples, experiences and acceptance. Keep up the good work!! 💖 Cognitive restructuring sounds like an amazing tool for SAD by the way, I will definitely try that

I have never been this early. I'm stoked, always great to learn new perspectives and ideas and see if you could use and implement them for yourself, on this journey we call life. ETA: Just some constructive feedback from an ADHD brain viewer, when using headphones, the music is pretty loud and distracting, it's really hard to focus on what you are saying.
@aslaughogna2 жыл бұрын
Yes on the music, and not restricted to headphones or ADHD. I could really do without background music in these types of videos.
@sv1000babe2 жыл бұрын
@@aslaughogna I don't mind music, but this just seemed to loud and it felt like the beat was competing with the speaking. Maybe something a little more laid back and softer.

The evidence journalling exercise really resonated with me and that is definitely one I will be trying out within the week. Feeling like I haven’t fully understood the point with journaling. So you write why you haven’t achieved the goals and then write the quality or habit that prevented you from achieving the goal in a separate journal and then look for examples in your behavior and environmental saying that you can achieve your goals having that quality ?
