How To Change Your Oil (Full) - EricTheCarGuy
www.ericthecarguy.com/
Here is the 'uncut' version of the oil change video that I did some time ago, the one thing I wish I had done differently in this video is that I would have shown putting a little bit of oil into the filter before installation as this would help with lubrication during start up.

Pro tip: Make sure you can remove the oil filter first. Sucks to have to drain the oil, come to an issue that the filter wont budge, requiring you to go to a automotive store to get an oil wrench, but its either 2am, or you need a car to get there. So you either SOL for the night, or end up not changing the filter and wasting new oil.
@oo0Spyder0oo
@oo0Spyder0oo 10 жыл бұрын
No wrench?Just punch a screw driver through the can and turn. You don't need the can again anyway. Of course the oil should be drained prior to doing this. Guaranteed to work, I do it every time.

Thanks! great video. I tried yesterday but the oil filter wouldn't budge and being all out of my medication, I kind of went bezerk with a sledgehammer, felt good on the moment but I noticed that a lot of little things broke off or came loose, and all sorts of fluids were accumulating under the car. So I started it in order to back it up and it's at that point I first saw flames, I didn't outright panic when it was evident that the garage was on fire but when the house became engulfed in a raging inferno I must admit that I lost it. Thank god I was working in my neighbor's garage! or I would have had a real bad day. Now that I encountered all this problems I can see it was a good idea to get some practice on someone else car, I wish my oil filter will be more cooperative, but if it is stuck too what to do?

Good tutorial. Many European cars you can change the oil and filter without any jacks or stands at all. If you have a driveway that slopes down to road level you can use that to in effect raise the front of the car to reach underneath without any danger. If you have long enough arms you can change the oil just by reaching under. Again this is probably for many European cars and is safer than any axle stand that I personally would not trust. If you have the option this is safer.

OK, so, let's get started..." I guess the dislikes were people that need something besides informative and clear.

The only part of this video that I didn't like was you adding a bit extra oil. If the manufacturer recommends 4.7 quarts but you put in 5, that's not right, especially when you're doing an instructional video. I think the message for oil capacity should be "Follow the manufacturer's recommendation". Other than that, great video.

.3 quarts isn't gonna do anything bad... though your pushing it once you get past the .2 to .3 mark. Subarus are an excellent example... some hold 4.9 or 5.1.... I just dump the whole five quart jug in and be done with it. No need to measure out tenths of a quart....

He is as step by step as can be. I have a 2000 Dodge Neon and learned through one of his videos how to get my heater working again without having to take it to a mechanic. Wasn't looking for it - I was trying to fix another problem - but it still came in handy. And he was working the problem/solution on a completely different vehicle in the video. What I like about ETCG videos is that he is able to dumb it down for people who know almost nothing about cars without actually making them FEEL dumb.

@NDOGG26 I normally take them and tip them upright into my catch pan overnight and then throw them away, that way most of the oil is out before I put it in the trash. I believe there are places that take them for recycling however you might want to check to see what is available locally for that.

@dungeonhack420 In truth most synthetics are blends of regular oil and synthetic so by design they are made to mix together just fine. My issue with synthetics is that most people don't need them and if you have a high mileage car you may end up making any oil leaks you have worse by using synthetics because they tend to have different flow characteristics that have a tendency to slip past where regular oil will not. The real benefit is being able to extend your oil change interval.
