London always gets the lions share of any resource, funds etc. Charger availability will be at least ten times higher than anywhere else so there is no need to worry. Friends of mine travel to London over 230miles each way for NHS treatment (I did say London gets all the resources didn't I) but charging is not their main worry just the hassle of parking.

Ooh this is helpful I’m in London and getting an EV and had no idea lamppost ones existed so I must check if any near me as I don’t have a driveway
@DanEscapes

Thank you for watching and glad the video has been useful. Which EV are you getting? I love having the lamp post chargers, I wish they add more as the number of EVs on the road grows will be harder to compete to get a charger. Did you have any luck finding a lamp post charger near you?

I was really anxious about taking my ev to London. Currently I’m charging in my garage so never have to deal with any public chargers on a regular basis. But now I’m really excited about moving to London with my eGolf. Hopefully it’s gonna work out well, wish me luck!

Let me know how you get on? It’s daunting losing that drive way charge. Look out for those lamp post chargers in your area, by far the cheapest option and find the free supermarket ones for a top up

very informative vedio! how do you pay the charging fees if you are doing it through the street lamp?

Thank you for watching. They have a QR code/URL link you can use to open up on your phone. This will give you all the instructions you need to do and then payment. I used ot have to put my card details in each time but now they have added apple pay. Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Those 3kw (often about 2.2kw) "granny charging" for charging at home ARE often included as standard (eg. My MG5)

Oh nice, only a standard charging cable came with the Zoe. Which MG5 have you got? Really like the updated bigger battery version. How you finding it? One of my friends is thinking of getting it.

do you think a portable power station is necessary for a Ev/PHEV owner?

I wish that here in the USA we had the street post charger! Question I noticed that your cable does not have a box like a regular EVSC! How does it regulate the charge? Is that cable expensive in case you lose it!
@DanEscapes
@DanEscapes 3 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad we have these lamp post chargers locally, If not would have had to get a different car. I think the box is for only when charging from a wall socket at home so to properly regulate the current but you can only charge up to 3kw with one so will take along time to charge

Hey, in London can you park for free in the centre? or do you pay for the charging and this is equivalent to paying for parking? Thanks for this video it was super helpful
@DanEscapes
@DanEscapes 2 жыл бұрын
Thank your for watching and glad you liked!! Unfortunately parking isn’t for free for EV (wish it was). The source london ones you just pay for the charging but can be expensive and also hard to get a space as they can be booked out via the app. Also you get free congestion charge up until 2025 but you still have to register your vehicle yearly with TFL (I think a £10 admin fee) other wise you will get a fine for driving in London. In my area the lamp post chargers are luckily in my parking zone so I can park there during the day, other wise you have to wait till the parking restrictions are valid. Let me know if you have any other question! Which ev you looking at getting?

Glad you found it helpful, in the video I got my kWh and KW mixed up, but still the process is the same when it comes to charging. I've got another video coming out soon of doing a long road trip with the zoe.

I'm still charging on the lamp post and leave over night. They are still charging 24p per KW which works out very cheap if I'm dirivng round the city.

I really want an Electric car... but I live in central London (and would have to park the car outside, no garage to charge the car overnight) and my main goal is to go to Bristol every now and then... I guess that’d not be a good idea to buy a full electric car, right ?
@DanEscapes
@DanEscapes 3 жыл бұрын
I'm in the same boat, I have to park on the streets with no access to home charging, I'm mainly using the free chargers at the super markets and the ones built into lamp posts as I have a few in my parking zone. As we only make local journeys it's perfect for us, haven't tried it on a long road trip yet due to the restrictions. You could look at the cars with a longer range (more expensive) or maybe a plug in hybrid might be a better option but as of Oct 2021 they will no longer be allowed to drive in the congestion zone for free. A Kia e-niro has good range, might be able to get to Bristol and back, if you can get some charge in Bristol before you head back that would be perfect. You definitely have to change the way you drive and plan your journeys, I do love the car and would find it hard going back to petrol. I would add the range drops due to the cold so winters aren't the best if you want to do long trips.

@@DanEscapes thank you so much ! Agree with you. I regret now living so centrally... too hard not having a parkway or a Garage. I thought we’d have a pass with the congestion charge if you lived in that area... some sort of exemption... the government paused the residents exemption application but I was hoping it’d come back later in the year 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@@CarlosPeralta_UK Alot of people are starting to look outside of london, especially if work allows you to work from home. I'd highly recommend getting an EV if you have a drive way, so much cheaper and easier to charge. I have to pay £10 a year for admin fee so I can drive inside the congestion zone, they are extending the ultra low emmison zone this year I think.

It is true, the only way we could do it was pay monthly split between two of us, get the mid range model and shop around between dealerships until we found the best deal. Actually running the car is so much cheaper than petrol and that’s how we’re making savings, even are parking permit has been cut in half cause it’s a green vehicle. Hopefully as the technology gets better cars will be cheaper to make and manufacturers will have to drop prices to compete. Just depends whats in your price range and if you think you’ll get more bang for your buck with a petrol car.
