I have a couple of e-bikes and I plug the charger into smart outlets. At the end of a long ride I plug the charger into the bike and tell Alexa to turn charger xx on for 8 hours, that way I know the battery gets fully charged and turns the charger off.

I think that should be fine. I read a few user manuals, and they say don't use an extension cord.

I know many manual conflicts . Just think when you touch battery with end which already have power on. That's why you plug first to battery and when done unplug the wall 1st. You will see charger might still have some light on when you are removed from the wall. That protects battery
