It works fine, but I'm rarely there long enough to get a decent charge. I suppose when this is all over and we can get back to having breakfast it'll become more useful.
@TakeItFromMe.4 жыл бұрын
My local Tesco only has 3kw charging so there's no point. It's a 25 mile round trip so it would take an hour of charging just to get half of the route covered for me. Also they chose the most inappropriate area of the car park to place the units and i know that people have had their new cars hit by trolleys and careless parking. Conversely the nearest lidl has a rapid charger and it's in a quiet corner so that's where i shop now. 20minutes of shopping whilst charging and I'm covered for 90 miles.

My local tesco about 300m away has 3 hours free parking, I plan on parking up, doing a little shopping and walking home, then walking back with the dog to get the car 3 hours later! That should give me a decent top up. Let's see if tesco say anything haha.

I can only speak of my local Tesco stores, both me and my wife now have EV’s (me a Tesla Model 3, her a VW ID4) and our local store chargers never go above 3KW, despite being rated at 7KW. It’s a little frustrating. The local store has now changed the parking to 60 mins free too, so it’s a rush to do the shopping and get only around 5/15 miles of range. We are just making the best of it none the less. The home charger is well worth the purchase though! @PNH7504 жыл бұрын
My local Tesco that has EV charging is 2 miles away. It too says that 7.2Kw is available but never actually delivers this amount. More like 3Kw.per hour. As others have pointed out, having to use a mobile to get more than 15 min of free energy is a pain, especially in bad weather. Why can't I just wave my Tesco Points card at the machine. On the bonus side is the free parking as well as free charge. My town centre car park has a charge point that is never used because you are charged for parking, only allow to charge for 1 hour and ripped off 30p/Kwh which makes the package more expensive per mile than an ICE vehicle.
@JoshLStuff3 жыл бұрын
possibly a longshot but you don't have a polestar 2 by any chance? the early models only came with 16amp cables but now Polestar customer service is giving out 32amp cables, which can often be the cause of getting 3kw rather than 7
@PNH7503 жыл бұрын
@@JoshLStuff Josh....I think you are correct. The dealer supplied the cable which is marked Delphi 20A. So it is not going to deliver 7.2Kw. This makes it useless for trips over 200 miles.
@JoshLStuff3 жыл бұрын
@@PNH750 it's a pretty odd number, might want to check with customer service (was i correct in identifying the car as a polestar 2? i don't recognise that 20Amp cable as one Polestar distributed with its cars). You shouldn't be using that cable for long distance charging anyway though, instead using a rapid charger with CCS or CHAdeMO which will be at the 30p+/kWh price but it's only intended for those long journeys
@PNH7503 жыл бұрын
@@JoshLStuff Thanks for the info. The dealer sold me the ex-demo car with just the single cable. After paying the sod, he then informed me I would need a home charger £600 and a fast charge cable £200 plus. @JoshLStuff3 жыл бұрын
@@PNH750 If it's ex-demo, might you be able to contact the manufacturer? The dealer should have told you about the home charger (especially as i'm hoping the electrician who installed it claimed the grant for you) and you should have a double ended Type 2 cable (as seen in the video) as well as a type 2 to 3 pin (home plug) cable. High speed cables for DC 25Kw+ charging are built into the chargers and slower AC machines (like the podpoints) require your own cable

Great video. Just a couple of tips. Better to plug in to car first. You're not wrong in how you did it, but some chargers respond with less fuss if you plug in the car first. There's (usually) no need to search for the charger as the app will be (if you've ok'd location services) showing where you are. Have a look at the bottom of the screen. Enjoy you're new car and I hope you have many happy miles in her.
@martinwinlow3 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you have not read the manual yet, then, as the GTE only has a 3.7kW charger. The most you will ever get is about 10 miles of added range per hour of charging. Personally, I believe hybrids are sold essentially fraudulently as there is absolutely no reason why you could not have spent your money on a *real* EV instead (assuming you, like 95% of other UK motorists, rarely do a trip of more than 150 miles). Keeping an engine is just a comfort blanket and simply perpetuates the myth that we must all still rely on fossil fuels to maintain our quality of life.
