Hi, I hope all is well with you. Thank you so much for this video! My husband passed away and I had no idea what to do when the "Check Oil Soon" light came on in my car. I didn't even know how to open the hood! But your video (and others like it) help me to know it's not the end of the world. Thanks for showing us how easy this is - AND how frequently you check on an older car.

Appreciate this. Feel like a bloody fool not learning this years ago but I always took my car to my mechanic for servicing and fluid top ups and kept to the servicing schedule rigidly so barely ever popped the bonnet to check myself, didnt seem to be a need. My old man isnt the teaching sort either, his world is inside the bottle of the beer he drinks. Nowadays, struggling financially to pay a mechanic to take care of the car, leaving me with the only other option - learning this myself. Your video was precise, to the point and didnt leave me feeling like an imbecile. Thank you

If my cars oil is empty, I could just add oil? I don’t need a oil change to be safe? The check engine light is off as well
@ZanesFacebook3 ай бұрын
If you car loses oil at all, it indicates a larger problem. Depending on what the problem is, yes, you can just keep adding oil. But you still need to have the oil and filter changed every 5k miles, or less. If your engine is constantly losing oil, then there will be tons of carbon buildup inside the engine which will, eventually, destroy the engine. Keeping the oil at the correct level, and changing the oil and filter (make sure the engine has the proper amount of oil when you change it, so you get as much crud out as possible) will keep it going longer

For old cars, it's a good habit to check the oil level regularly, and it's an easy solution to dry off oil but try to change oil and filter completely after 5000 miles.

I appreciate it I’ve never had a car and no one to show me I have a question what and why is an oil change?
@CDHowTo Жыл бұрын
An oil change is something that needs to be done every 5000 miles or so. It helps keep the engine running properly as after a while corrosion and sludge can build up
@Millie_dread3 жыл бұрын
Should your engine be cooled off before you check the oil?
@colonelclappers71603 жыл бұрын
It doesn't really matter because you wont really be touching the oil, BUT DO NOT OPEN the radiator cap unless you want 3rd degree burns and a missing eyeball after using the car, let that cool down for a while
@CDHowTo3 жыл бұрын
As another commentor mentioned, it is not as important for the engine to be fully cooled however you do not want to check the oil while the car is running and as they also mentioned never open the radiator cap while the engine is hot

Can we add cold oil to a warm or hot engine?
@CDHowTo Жыл бұрын
preferably a cold engine
@DerangedIntellectual9 Жыл бұрын
looks like your mazda's giving you some trouble too bud. :( i drive a 2010 acura tl and for all my other cars i've replaced oil between 6 and 8 thousand kms. my TL is reading 90% oil life and it's barely been 1000 km since the last oil and filter change (about a month and a half ago) but my dipstick reading is now at low so i have to add more oil. it really pisses me off that i have to add extra oil long before my next change is due. i've heard burning oil's been a problem with these late 2000s-early 2010s Japanese models. any suggestions? I have the J37 engine.
@CDHowTo Жыл бұрын
This particular car wouldn't stop burning oil no matter what so we eventually ended up getting rid of it. We were getting the exact same problem you mention, it seemed within 1000km of the last oil change we would be low on oil once again
