These things are a work of art on wheels. I have a 3.2 2004 s-line with 65k miles that is never not a pleasure to drive. If things go wrong you just need to man up, sell your home, and live in the car.
@christopherpardell44184 жыл бұрын
Zoop I have the 2005 s-line 3.2. 120,000 and had it since 14k over 13 years ago. In all that time the only repairs have been a bad brake light switch ( which, oddly, makes it shift weird) and just Recently a new fuel filter, and replacing some wiring a rat chewed. Paint and plastic have held up better than any car I’ve ever owned despite being parked outdoors. And the 3.2 engine is bulletproof. Probably gonna have to have the headliner re-done- but the only thing I wish they had thought thru better was that damn LED display in the dash. They only way to fix it is to replace the entire instrument cluster, which is a 1500 dollar part that requires pulling the dash.
@andrewstinnett91394 жыл бұрын
@@christopherpardell4418 There are at least 2 repair shops in the United States that will replace the LCD screen for about $250. You have to pull the dash cluster yourself, but they have videos on how to do it. I did my cluster 2 years ago and it works great! Here is one link: www.taninautoelectronix.com/product/2000-2006-audi-tt-instrument-cluster-repair/ the other is in North Carolina, can't find it at the moment. Hope this helps.

Andrew Stinnett that is GREAT info... thanks! Only thing is... TT is my only car- how long I gotta go with the dash yanked? Any idea how hard it is to get the dash out? I’ve never tried it.- ETA never mind- I found the video... dealership made it sound a whopping lot harder than it looks. (Of course)

1) Open up oil cap make sure theres no "mayonaise" under it which would indicate a head gasket leak. 2) Make sure quattro works and doesnt make grinding noise on acceleration or braking 3) Check door windows that they drop a little when you close the doors (if not you need new door locks) 4) Check your lights at night that they light up good, mirrors inside the headlight could be burned up. 5) Check that aircon works and that temperature on the dash goes to middle and stays there.

The white sludge under the oil cap is usually caused by short trips from the car not getting up to operation temperature often. The oil cooler is another common failure that leads people to assume its the head gasket. If you’re worried your head gasket is bad, get a compression test

On this car the Hazard switch is working, more likely the indicator stalk is worn(common) I have 2 spares for my 225BAM! Avoid the water pump with the plastic impellers like the plague, they work lose on the drive shaft and intermittently overheat your motor until the impeller falls off and the motor overheats constantly. In this video, it is more likely a faulty thermostat stuck shut. This is common on the Mk1 TT 225 engine, sometimes the stat sticks open too and the motor never reaches temp (fault P1296 if memory serves me correct) as some garages use cheaper none Audi thermostats. Get a good thermostat that opens at 82 degrees C and you will be fine. Also, use deionized water with the correct antifreeze added or you will end up with the same problem a month or two down the line! Been there with both the overheat and the under heat, fit a good quality thermostat and a pump with a steel impeller! Use a green temperature sensor too. When replacing the thermostat it is wise to buy a new plastic oil dip stick as old ones go brittle and snap, also if replacing the water pump replace the cambelt (do both these at the same time, false economy not to) Then you are set to drive another 40,000miles without issue!

On the turn signals / hazard switch, the relay inside the hazard switch unit sticks for the turn signals. You can try & give a finger thump onto the hazard switch to see if that knocks it loose. Does not solve the problem, but may unstick the relay. Did that on our 06 TT MK1 until the replacement arrived. There are also some videos I have seen where they have opened up the switch & replaced the worn faulty relay.

A really fantastic video. Love your work; very thorough, and covered pretty much every issue. The only notable omissions I can think of just now, are the heat related impeller issue, and the mini dials needles issue, which is very common in the MK1 dash cluster. Both the needles and the failing dot matrix display are often fixable for relatively cheap monies from a third party. You just have to send it away for a few days (BBA Reman).
@serbancordis34165 жыл бұрын
Usually both pads will have the same wear. If not the sliding bolts are worn or stuck. On the ate system with rubber bushings for the sliding bolts this rarely happens but on bosch systems(mercedes fronts) it may happen. Also a frozen piston would not release enough the pad so more inside wear.
@wallycastro36 жыл бұрын
There are 4 codes and only 2 problems. 1)Vacuum leak throwing the mixture to the "lean side" thus, causing problem number 2) ECU having to add fuel. 3)Every time you have a vacuum leak you will get a ECM desabled code. That wraps up the first issue. The second one is just an O2 sensor taking too long to heat "went bad"....therefore it takes too long to send stoich measurements to the ECU......throwing a ECM desabled code.....and bla bla bla bla

It's crazy to me how my 1999 b5 Passat had an all aluminum 4 link front suspension, and this car has a steel lower control arm and a strut based system. I'm pretty sure this car was significantly more expensive than a Passat.
@TrishaXuk5 жыл бұрын
Aluminium is lighter, but steel has a very variable set of extreme strength related properties that can be honed to the application. As mentioned, this is a pretty well designed/tested sports vehicle. The reason it's still loved and sought after, is that it has fantastic driving characteristics. Even last year, I drove a brand new S5... And it was a lovely car, but two weeks later, I drove my medium health MK1 225 Quattro TT, and it felt like riding a razor blade... The feel of cutting up the road, is hard to beat in anything short of a high-end sports car (or decently modified cheaper coupe).

What would be causing a new battery to completely drain within 3 days if parked? Alternator test and it came out fine, google doesn’t really help. Maybe the radio? I had to jump the car and when it got power the radio started blaring even though it was switched off.

Wiring harness? Everything is not hooked up properly short in the eletrical system and possibly fryed your radio idk
@ianholland66715 жыл бұрын
If you’ve not sorted this yet I reckon it’s the alarm siren it has rechargeable batteries so if thy are bad which by the age of these now they will be they simply won’t take a charge so the main battery will constantly be trying to charge the alarm battery hence you car battery being flat within 3 days. My mk5 golf had same issue I replaced the alarm siren with a newer version and all is fine again. I purchased my TT 2 weeks ago and disconnected alarm straight away as knew this would be an issue and only using the car as a second car.

just bought mine its a 2001 and im having some electrical problems my blinkers only work when they want usually not at all but my hazards work fine. fuses are fine checked them first. what would you say would be a cause of this?
@wonkybomb18656 жыл бұрын
It's definitely the hazard switch. They all have this problem. On mine sometime hitting the hazard switch on and off a few times would correct it and it would work for a little while but it's worth it to just replace it. Like he said in the video you slide the radio out of the dash if it's a stock radio you'll need the tool to plug into each side to unlock the clips but once it's out you can reach right up to the hazard switch. That power distribution box on top of the battery that he showed in the video is another thing to check regularly they are prone to catch on fire if you don't notice the fuses melting over time. Also these had a bunch of problems with the gauge cluster on the dash not just the led screen but also gauges not working. Lucky for me just my fuel gauge is off by half a tank but for others the tach or even speedo stop working and it's expensive to buy another cluster that will just mess up as well. There used to be a place that would fix the issue if you sent them the gauge cluster but can't remember the name. I also have problems with the windows acting up when I roll them up and down my dome light working intermittently and did have camber issues in the rear until I bought adjustable rear tie bars. The slave cylinder went on mine as well and you have to remove the tranny to replace it and it's made out of cheap plastic I found out but I replaced the clutch flywheel and pressure plate while I had it out. Did my timing belt as well and added a water pump with a metal impeller because I heard the stock plastic ones are crap as well. All in all this car has been a money pit to make reliable and it's a love hate relationship for sure. Audi should have recalled many things on these model years but failed to take any responsibility for the chronic malfunctions of the TT.

Why are these stupid aftermarket air filters put on? If the Audi engineers wanted these they would have done it, FYI they're sucking hot air from the engine bay which doesn't combust properly, The original air box flows air from the outside of the engine thus being cooler air for better combustion.
