Great video - important for people to know 'brake fluids are hygroscopic, what does this mean? Most brake fluids such as DOT 3 and DOT 4 are hygroscopic, meaning they will absorb moisture when exposed to air. The main enemy of brake fluid is moisture and this can be absorbed through brake lines or the brake fluid reservoir even when the vehicle is not driven.' It is very important that the cap is securely attached as per the click in the video. Also if you are buying brake fluid in the shops it should have a plastic foil seal under the cap to ensure it has not had a bad seal in the container and already spoiled with moisture from the air before you bring it home. You can inspect the bottle to see if the security seal is still attached (just don't open it in the store and ruin it for someone else). If storing your bottle, best to write the date opened on it. Lastly, only put the DOT rating that your vehicle says, adding a higher DOT e.g. 5 may be completely unsuitable for your engine and have quite different properties leading to premature brake failure.

Video saved me. I was doing delivery and the brake light came on. I was not sure what the problem was. I found your video and stopped at a auto zone while out. I had no idea what I was doing, but your video helped a lot. Than you, BTW it was bone dry when I went to fill it up.

Hello, you can mix the brake fluid of different brands since they changed the 2 lines of the rear brakes in my 2003 Civic car and they added liquid to it, but it was not the original one, but now that I check the level of the brake fluid, it does It's missing a bit but I don't know if you can mix the liquid from different brands or it has to be the same brand.

You can mix the fluids like DOT 4 and DOT 5. Brake fluid is like engine oils.

I can't speak for the other gens, but for 7th gen Civics (specifically 01-03, and probably 04-05, too) it does say on the cap to "use either DOT3 or DOT4 from a sealed container".

Hi Peter. I have a question about ATF fluid...I have a 2003 Corolla automatic transmission. Is it safe to use "synthetic" ATF in an older car? Is it good/bad idea? At 80,000 km now.

I don't understand how much to add, where the min and max lines/levels are. It's not made clear in the video.
