It may be of interest for some people to know , the stator puts out AC current and 19 or more amps , it only takes 1 amp to end all your problems , careful where you put your fingers while running the engine checking current , the regulator converts it to DC current . Dont take my word , look it up yourself.........

If you just sand a tiny bit of the inner primary around the stator you can slide the magnetic cover off, it doesn’t take much, I used to work on a fleet of 52 Harley’s and we found a lot of short cuts

Thank you been wrenching since 5 and HD dealerships and I still reference every job just to pick up on different better or faster ways and my ex wifes Sportster has been a kicking my ass because electrical was not my strong area. But it like you know it works or it doesn't and it the bike is not moving or running it's not spinning to produce magnets to regulate. Good job wrench mafia

Thanks, my 2013 Dyna shut down on my twice, put in a new Lith, fine for 2 days then again, battier light then total shut down, I was dreading the shop prices, thanks soo much!!

Damn man I just watched your video last week that helped me change my drive belt on my 92 soft tail. The day after I get it driving. I realize my stator is possibly bad. Now I see all the shit I gotta take back off. Oh no

Don't know who you are, but' I just saw your video on the Electric Stator replacement. And I definitely enjoyed it. I have a 2015 Fatboy, and I'm actually having problems with the battery staying charged. Now' I'm not sure if it's just the battery, or the Stator itself. Btw' though I have had a 2005 Harley Fatboy yrs ago, and just got the 2015 last year, with only 19,000 miles on it (mind you) I don't know much about anything when it comes to Motorcycles. So' I definitely enjoyed the video, and I'm definitely going to take a look at the Stator now, that I know exactly where's it at, check it.

My 2005 only has a 2 wire pigtail coming from case to rectifier regulator most replacement stators are 3 pase [ wire ] would you explain a little on this tor me

What causes a stator to burn up? I had mine replaced two years ago and i think this one’s bad again now. I just realized I’m missing my handlebar ground. That can’t be it, right? I’ve replaced my battery grounds and battery. What the heck

Just bought a 2001 ultra classic from an elderly couple three days later bike won’t start. Battery only have 10 v is it the stator

How would I know if it’s the stator or regulator/rectifier? I can ride all day on a full charge, when I go to park it at night and shut off the engine, go to start it again and it won’t even turn over, no lights either. 2000 Road King FLHRI Years ago I had a 2004 sportster 883 with the same problems. Replaced regulator/rectifier and stator no charging or starting issues after that so I’m guessing that’s problem. Any suggestions appreciated!

yes,ok i have an 85 dyna lowrider. Evo 1340 with the 5 stud clutch hub. Now i replaced the hub and the stator. the stator was just a hair wider than my original stator, but nothing is restricting movement. it's a two wire set up and had a different plug style on the stator verses the old one. Will it work on my bike and i need to know if it can be hooked up backwards. The wires , can they cause damange if they are crossed. which wire is which

Great Vid. I have a 15 FXDWG, drove the bike one day, battery light came on after 45 mins. Thought it was battery, so replaced it. Happened again the next time I rode. Tested everything, NO voltage output at ANY the stator wires (yes, my meter was set to AC voltage). So, I'm guessing it can't be anything else, right?

"Lets go brandon"!!!!!! America,baby! ty. I have a 2005 15 anniv fatboy. my Indy rebuilt bottom half,didnt touch top!!! (new s&s crank,37g andrews cam gear drive kit,new cam bearings ,fueling cam plate and hp fueling oil pump) bike kickbacks, with mad lock up, when staring HOT, cold, kicks right over!! when kick back occurs,its a lound metallic clank,with smoke out of air cleaner!! feels like gears grinding,teeth cliched! BUT when batt, is at 100% no prob usually kicks right over. i have 2 batterys, a yuasa ytx20l-bs( 270cca) and i bought a new HD 315 cca .but when running at 2000 rpms,,the HD battery does not go past 14.3v, but when i put the yuasa goes up to 14.4 and climbing, so i left the Yuasa in!! now its a crap shoot,if it grinds or starts right up??? please help if possible, Rich from NY , going crazy. ty in advance Brandon. going to try your test on rectifier/stator now, but i think im charging ok, if im getting 14.4 v when running @2000rpm, correct??? thinking its the starter clutch/starter. its just a bitch to get to.

If your battery voltage is good like you say it is, then It sounds like your starter might be experiencing “heat soak.” The starters in the softails are the worst to remove. It’s pretty much guaranteed that the oil tank has to be removed. You might be able to squeeze in there and wrap the starter with an insulated wrap to deflect the heat. I know some guy run that stuff on their throttle body to keep temperatures down, surely it should work for a starter, too. Thanks for watching! Here’s a question, I have an 07 low rider and I just did woods 222 cams. Soon after, I have a whining noise that sounds like my bike is turbo. It’s there even if I shut off the bike and roll to a stop. I’m thinking maybe wheel bearings? What do you think or have you heard of this before? Thanks

On plugging back in the plug does it matter what hole goes into what pin? None of the 3 males nor the 3 females are marked

I have a 2007 street glide that I just replaced the battery on today. It has a small kicker amplifier 500 W for the two faring speakers which are kicker also but they’re only 6 1/2 anyway when the bike gets hot after riding for a while, and I pull up to a light, my voltage starts fluctuating from 14 five down to around 12 and will sometimes cause me to stumble for a slight second taking off from the light if I have music playing at a decent volume I don’t play the radio at all and I’m riding the voltage will not drop. Does this sound like a stater issue to you? Or the regulator?

It sounds like the stator isn’t rated at high enough amps to handle the load from the audio system. You get get higher output stators to resolve that

I have a 07 Softail Deluxe. Turn on the switch on and I have no ignition or headlight. I have the horn and taillights. Checked all the fuses and replaced the relays. Found out today I no no power going to the fuse box. Any suggestions? Thank you.

If you’re keeping it stock, and you’re not running huge amps and speakers (which I never recommend 🤣) then look in to Cycle Electric. They offer a 2 year guarantee with their stators. Your part number would be CE-3845-99 It’s rated for 38/48 amps at 2500rpm

Two kilowatts? At 12V that's nearly 200 amps (power=volts x amps). If that's the power output of an amplifier, then the power supply for that will be nearer three kilowatts. What makes you think there's 2000W being used or supplied?

I usually go with drag specalties or OEM if you’re not running large aftermarket speakers or anything

Thanks for the video. I have a question. I couldn't find a 24 Amp stator for my 1988 FLHTC so I bought an entire 35 Amp system from V-Factor. It came with a new shim. How do I know I have the rotor shimmed in there correctly? (2 phase system with new stator, rotor, and rectifier)

I’ve never personally ran in to that issue on an evo engine, and unfortunately, I’m away from all my service manuals right now. But I suppose that you could assemble everything and check from sprocket to sprocket with a straight edge. If you still have an issue or need more detailed information than what I can offer, let me know and I’ll find some more information for you.

I have a 98 soft tail with a s&s 124. I’m gonna try to test my stator but I’m pretty sure that’s my charging issue. What kind of stator do you suggest for the 124? I don’t want to order the wrong one. I’m a beginner at working on Harleys but with your content I think I’ll be able to handle it. Ok thanks!

The engine size doesn’t make a difference for the stators, what comes in to play is the electrical demands you’re asking from your bike, big stereo, under glow lights, etc. check out cycleelectricinc. Com they have a nice chart that’ll help you pick what’s right for you

@@GilstrapGarage I haven’t got any anything hooked up extra! My bike feels like it’s running low on power after about 20 min then cuts out and clicks. Then I gotta charge my battery. I put a new rectifier on it but I’m gonna run tests on my starter with a multi meter. Not sure how to do it correctly. I’ll google it and I’m sure it will help. Ok thanks!

Thanks. My new stator did not come with the new 4 bolts. They are hardly torqued down so why can't they be reused? I ask because no one says why. When you put them back in do you put anything on them like red loctite? The manual doesn't say anything. It did say they have a some bead goup on them that breaks when you take them out, but again nothing about putting the same stuff on when you reset them or new ones? What's your take? Thanks again!

I typically use blue loctite when installing the bolts for the stator. The torque value is really low, but because the bolts are so small, the threads can stretch easily, and that’s why it’s advised to throw them out after they have been used.

Heat makes them brittle/weak from the old machinist I asked. I can't find torque specs anywhere in the manual.Thats why I'm on here searching

The best you can do with it not running is check resistance line to line and each line to ground

Hey we just bought my wife’s first Harley, a little stater bike but when I went picked it up I didn’t make it a mile from the Harley shop and it started cutting out sounded and felt like it was running out of gas. Does that sound like a stator problem to you. It may be but it really doesn’t sound like it to me.

No sir, that sounds like a air/fuel issue, or it could be something electrical that controls that circuit depending on how new the bike is

Hey man , I’ve got a 2007 883 , check engine is here and it’s giving me code P0107 , map sensor voltage too low , and the bike runs perfectly fine , little bit in and the bike starts to cut off , it just chokes and it gives me no throttle response at all , it ends up then dying down then turning off and it starts back up fine but same problem again within 30 seconds , could it be electrical , that the stator/rectifier is undercharging ? , would appreciate your feedback on this and if you drop your insta down below and we could discuss this , would love that even more , appreciate it man

My 07 sporty starts up fine but my engine and battery light comes on after 2-3 minutes. If I turn bike off and bike on they go away. So I changed battery and it still is lit up. What do I need to do next. Thankx

If you have any kind of trouble code reader, that engine light would give you a code, and point you towards the issue. but if you don’t, unplug the stator, start the bike, and check your voltage from line to line, and you shouldn’t have any inconsistencies

Hey so I did the test in all 3 spots with the bike off. Got all the same readings. Then with the bike off I put the negative to the frame and the positive leads in each of the holes and I shouldn’t have got a reading but I did. In all 3 spots. (Saw the test on a previous video) does that mean I need a new stator or it’s just grounding and I have to find out where and fix that?

Yeah that sounds pretty likely that your stator is bad. Or one if the wires is making contact with a ground source probably safe to say change it out

I had to boost my bike, it sat and idled good I pulled out made it about half a mile down the road and it died and I had to boost is to start it back do you think it’s a stator issue?

if you have a multimeter you can check the voltage at the stator to determine that.

You can do a load test on your battery, and check the output on your voltage regulator to confirm they are OK. The stator is probably just worn from normal use if you were able to confirm the failure

@@magdatavdgiridze4999 it’s hard to say without being able to check the bike and see it for myself. If you ran the checks that I explained in the video, and you see a variance, then the regulator is bad

That stator looks badly burned, I think it was caused by a short circuit in the voltage regulator or further in the electrical system.

Hi i was on the road today and my flasher went out and my brake light and my neutral light in the dash and at the end of the ride my battery was dead i test the stator and its gone is that a concidence the stator blow and my light are out to?

If I had to guess, I’d say the bike began overcharging and supplied high enough voltage to the lights to take them out. You might want to check your voltage regulator as well.

It could be a different symbol. When you don’t have your leads attached to anything, what does the display say?

@@matthewburns6843 okay, now take your leads and touch them together and see if the reading changes. If it’s reading 1. When the leads aren’t connected to anything, and it changes when you touch them together, then you will have a base line on what your meter is telling you. Then if you connect to whatever you’re trying to measure resistance on and it’s still telling reading what it said when it wasn’t connected to anything, you have a broken wire or something equivalent.

Brother I got a 92 soft tale evo. I've put 2 voltage regs on it in 2 years. New battery. I put a dig volt meter on it. The last time. And it shows 13.6. Idling. But if I turn my dash switch to burn my headlights. It starts discharging. And it goes below 12 idling. W t f.

Does anyone have a idea why when I go to do a diagnostic check on my 2004 hd sportster . I get a No Rsp on the first module sequence which is “ P” even when the start button is in the ON position. Plus my engine check light doesn’t come on what so ever….help

I looked the code up, it looks like it’s connected with the Tilt Sensor. Has the bike been dropped or layed down recently?

@@GilstrapGarage hey thanks for giving me your time. I know how busy you must be. Anyway this whole thing started when my brother hooked up some speakers. Well he wired them in directly to the ignition switch wire. Anyway ever since then it’s been a nightmare. You turn the key on the engine check light does NOT come on at all. That means no spark at all but the bike cranks good. I run the “P” diagnostic and all I get is No Rsp. that tells me they are not talking to each other. I bought a different ICM no help . So I bought a different speedometer harness no help…….. SO HELP……😂

@@markrice4409 did you hear a loud “beep” when the bike turned on after the speakers were hooked up and before this started happening?

Ohm is the unit of measurement for resistance. High resistance or open lead could potentially identify an issue. So if I’m wrong in what I said, I’d like to be educated about why I was wrong. After all, I’m not the expert that clicked on the video. I’m just the guy that made it.

@@GilstrapGarage your terminology and use is accurate. Thanks for the video, I can across it while trying to sort out a weak charging system, only getting 14.1v and never a full charge unless I use a charger. Thanks for the tips.
