Yes, fungus can be a problem. I always keep in the kitchen Hydrogen Peroxide spray as an anti-fungal and antiseptic, especially for clay pots and cutting boards used for meats.

this baking soda method is specific for claypot only.. I have not tested for other materials, though if you buy the kit, it states the list of materials you can test.The kit testing scope might differ.
