What of the land is not up to 50M and you want test? Can Earth resistance test meter be used to do soil resistance test?

For each measurement taken, do I have to set the distance on the instrument? for example measurement L at 1 meter should I set it to 1 meter, second measurement at 2 meters should I set it to 2 meters? thinking that I will apply the wenner method. its correct?
