I am a mechanic. If your fluid is low enough to cause a noise and loss of normal function, please look for a leak around the power steering lines and rack and pinion. You must have a slow leak that should be addressed.
@oneadVANtureatatime4 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thank you for the tip and Iam definitely going to look for that leak.😀

Very true! I constantly check the break fluid and coolant levels as well. Now I need to check if there is a slow leak in the steering, which is extremely difficult to see on a van with the engine packed in so tight.

Out of curiousity Ive been looking at power steering fluids and everything I see says you need chf 11s for promasters. I have a 2014 and would prefer to not pay 30$ for fluid. Did that stuff work alright?
@oneadVANtureatatime3 жыл бұрын
It has been working good. We have had no more issues with low fluid thankfully. I think I used dot3 and I should have used dot4 anyhow no problems and this is over a year later.

Hey guys this is unrelated and I wanted to ask this a while back, now that you are near the year time frame is there anything you would change about your build?
@PaDutchRunner4 жыл бұрын
This would make a great video! Hopefully they will put that together for us!
@oneadVANtureatatime4 жыл бұрын
We just might do a video on this one. Off the top we would have went with a built in propane stove top. Bigger sink..water gets everywhere now, more insulation in the floor..our 1/2 foam board is not enough the floor feels like ice, and a cabin window which we still might add. That would give me more head room and a nice breeze in the summer. We will have to put more thought into this...great question!!!
@PaDutchRunner4 жыл бұрын
@@oneadVANtureatatime For our floor, we started out with a layer of reflectix (i know, it's not supposed to do much when used this way), when 1 inch poly, then 3/4 inch plywood...we haven't yet used the van in freezing temps, but i'm hoping it isn't too bad. Also, our heater's register is imbedded into our floor, about midway between the cab and the bed, so I'm hoping that helps with the floor as well.

Uh oh... I hope you are able to send the rodent on his way. I think my first try would be peppermint oil. I've heard that Irish Spring doesn't work, nor do dryer sheets. I saw one video where the guy used perfume, but you probably don't want the van smelling like perfume. Good luck!

@freedomdove4 жыл бұрын
Oh my. Mice in the engine compartment (or anywhere in your rig) is a bad thing. I bought a solar-powered motion-sensor magnetic-mounted light to stick under my rig for deterring mice and other creatures from making a home in my engine. You can also just leave your hood up most of the time if you're parked in one site for a spell. They don't like to make nests in lit areas, from what I understand.

Those mice could have been riding in there since the west coast. You better get them out of there before they get hungry and start eating your wiring or drinking your power steering fluid.

That’s were the power steering fluid went!! Hope you guys are enjoying your new home 🏡 Take care my friend 😎
@johntatman91684 жыл бұрын
Actually if you overfill the reservoir it will seep out the top of the cap when the fluid heats up.
@oneadVANtureatatime4 жыл бұрын
I am guessing the last owner did over fill it..like you said there was a dirty mess all over the top of the resvervoir! I just checked the level again and it seems to be holding.

Great tip ! We got ready for war and the mice disappeared! I think it might have been the rough washboard road we went down. Anyhow we still have peppermint oil and traps.
