Thanks for the proper way to grease kingpins most people have no idea. Thanks for another awesome video.

One discovery I have made is using an aluminum complex grease such as Schaeffers 274 with kingpins, the grease seems to stay in twice as long as regular #2 lithium chassis grease and in my case reduced steering effort slightly also. It especially stays in there longer during the rainy season.

Great tip I'll have to look into that for my truck

@@AutoRestoMod I did the kingpins on mine 2 years ago. I initially used Super tech boat and trailer marine grease which is one of the better cheap off the shelf greases I've used especially for kingpins. After about 9 months I decided to give the Schaeffer's 274 a try and I could tell a difference as soon as I baked out of the driveway with it. Instead of taking 4-6 pumps with water pouring out it now only takes 1-3 pumps and nowhere near as much water comes out since it's waterproof not water resistant like the lithium complex is.

SO if ive got a 2wd ranger Xlt 76 F150, does it even have kingpins? it does have a wander or slow steering response, but no tire wear.? how do i figure out in a condo parkin lot if it is the rag joint or tie rods or ball joints? i just actually got new tires today and tireshop was very unsure unclear what was was worn out and needed fixing before a wheel alignment could be done SO i surely didnt want a bunch of millenials throwing parts at my truck that it didnt need at $100/hr labor especially after they recomeneded and ordered a too narrow tire size for my rims in the first place and already upchraged me 75 bucks for that

If your tie rods and radius arm bushings are good and the center bushing for your high beams are okay you may have a steering box issue. Not uncommon in the truck that old. If the rag joint is worn, it will be fuzzy. I would have someone sit in the driver's seat and turn the wheel back and forth while you look at the steering column down at the rag joint . Most likely your play is going to be in the steering box. I would recommend looking at redhead steering boxes. They have the best rebuild service

@@AutoRestoMod i think you are correct, i already attached a wire to steering wheel and watched the rag join column area and all the play seems to be IN the steering box. Some YTer suggested loosening nut on top of box and tightening slotted screw to try and take up slack b4 spending 3-400 on new steering box. will this work?

First I am a sub, so bear with me here. Not quite a shade tree mech, maybe tall grass mech. Got a question that has nothing to do with king pins. 70 Ford Falcon Wagon. C4, 250, no power stop nor steer. Back up lights. Im clear on loca tion of switch on trans. Fuse in panel good, bulbs sockets good, and I understand could possibly refresh the switch or replace. Heres what I cant a amswer to is, and Ive with my lame computer skills tried, what is the switch at the bottom of the steering column that when unplugged the Bird of Prey will not start. Ive seen similar looking for gm, etc. Chilton steers clear of wiring diagrams. Its got 2 wires, to a plug, then to ignition. One wire had nasty solder repair that failed when unplugged. Found out car no start. Plugged back in it starts with 1 wire off. Wth? Also the trans switch works ok but no reverse lights. Just need function of the device at bottom of column. Thanks.

That is your neutral safety switch. That is the same switch that you would see all the way up through 1969. Those have recently become available again but they are pretty expensive. Check with AutoKrafters they have them in stock. We did a video on how to install the new Switch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5q8oZWmZrdljaMsi=ZhGwip4I0g869rZz

@@AutoRestoMod Ok. I've learned by having one vehicle, to figure out what I can before tearing into it. Thanks for your prompt response. Have you driven a Ford lately? Good day
