How To Check The Fuel Pressure On A Volvo

Testing the fuel rail pressure on a 1998 Volvo V70 XC with common workshop supplies. Applicable to many different vehicles with electronic fuel injection.

You can use a tire pressure gauge too. Then you don't have to remove that litle valve.

The only minor problem w/ reading at the fuel rail is the pressure regulator is before the rail on S/ V70's cars. You need to measure at the tank w/ just the key to eliminate any problems with fuel filter and pressure regulator.

It would help if you showed what tool you use to remove the inner part of the valve, or say it's the same tool that is used to remove the inner part of a regular tire.

Thanks. Some may want to use a gauge that adapts to a schrader instead of spilling fuel and taking the schrader apart, risking losing the schrader pieces. Unnecessary.

Help please! Replaced fuel sensor at rail as I had 70 psi on scanner but with the gauge is 56 psi, still the same issue and car runs like is lightly missfiring but I have no codes. Cleaned the throtle body and replaced this parts, coils and plugs, fuel sensor at rail, timing belt. Still same issue. Scanner I'm using (Launch x431, diagun)

Check your battery terminals. My Volvo would quit because the computer wire was loose on the positive battery terminal. People tend to forget to tighten both nuts when installing a new battery.

Hi, my 87 240 won’t start suddenly, I want to check if the fuel pump is working. Will this test work if the car turns over, but does not start? I replaced the relay already. Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 96 Volvo 850T5. Cool days it re-starts with no problem, but once it get near 80 degrees, it starts and dies and I get a misfire code when the engine idles lumpy. Did you ever figure out what your problem was?

What size fuel hose? what would the reading be for a clogged fuel filter?
