I love how it told a story from "do your best, you can do it" to "don't push yourself, it's okay" then "don't give up" like it was progressively getting worse😂

One of my favourite songs is a Japanese song that is about someone having an existential crisis about the passage of time while awake at night with a fever & it ends with 「大丈夫だよ。。。多分。」 Which means “Everything will be fine… Probably.” Which I’ve been obsessed with for years, so I’ll never forget that sentence but also have trouble using it non-sarcastically!
@purplebushie
@purplebushie 8 ай бұрын
TN: I’m a massive language nerd and do hobbyist localisation. Technically speaking “tabun” means “Maybe/I think/suppose/hopefully” which in theory would be a lot less solid than “probably.” By definition, probably means “more likely than not” while maybe means “it could be.” However!! In regular conversation, that’s not really the case! I feel that “tabun” in this sentence packs a punch and adds some sarcasm/kind of a sense of giving up to the line. “It’s all up to fate now” type deal. When people say “It’s probably fine” casually they usually mean it more like “it definitely could not be fine but that’s not my problem” and I feel like that usage of the word really suits the delivery and packs the punch to be both comedic and a little bit disheartening. “Everything will work out just fine!!” “I mean. Probably.” Ok rant over 🎉
